I am a member of quite a few forums. Various snowmobile, truck and atv, and when you go to a brand specific section, or forum itself, you are going to be talking with people that think that particular make/model is the best. It's the nature of the beast. You'll be fighting an uphill battle, right or wrong.

Interior definitely looks cheap in the Chevy, don't like how it sits way high in the back either

Both too big. These things would struggle to navigate trails that 80's Toyotas handle with aplomb. And that's just the turning radius.

Both too expensive. Not many folks will want to actually flog a $35k vehicle off road.

Both are designed by marketing folks to be substitutes either for mini vans (lets dad save face) or SUVs (more amenities for soccer moms).

Neither is inherently designed for off road use. If they were, there would be all the need for tire and suspension changes. You'd just use it.

Looked at the colorado when they first came out, checked out one again just before I got the Tacoma.

At the OC auto show theTacoma's (3) and colorado (1) were right next to each other. Big crowd checking out Tacoma, nobody looking at the colorado

Colorado interior looks like a soccer mom minivan.

Cheap looking interior was just one of the many reasons I picked the Tacoma over the minivan (colorado.)

I know its not apples to apples, but 43K for a TRD sport here in Canada, I can get a $63K full size truck after rebates and 0% for less monthly payment, and it puts the Taco interior to shame. I feel not having a leather option for a trd ($43K) is a little much to ask a fella to pay. felt very cheap compared to my 2012 Ram Sport I currently drive.

I think the Canyon looks nice as well with some work (don't like the lights attached to the hood on this one). Different strokes for different folks, but I'm liking where this mid size market is going.

That's a nice "looking" truck! Almost bought one exactly like it...$43k ouches!

In Canada $42,000 is what you pay for a trd sport. Comparable Colorado z71 4x4 is $37,000 and better financing rates. I really really want a taco, but no way am I spending as much on a taco as I can get a $63,000 full size truck after rebates and 0% financing. Either the prices AND interest rates come down or I will not be buying a 3rd gen.

Ha, every time I see one going down the road, it reminds me of the old hot rods that were ridiculously higher in the rear than the front

The issue I had and my thoughts were much the same you just posted were where will I be at in two years and five years. The Toyota will be worth way more than either the Colorado or Canyon and you won't have spent as much time getting to know your dealers mechanics. I jumped for the TRD Sport with ECP and taxes with a few must have accessories and I got to $52K. Home equity loan at 2.7% did it for me.

Wow, now you are disrespecting a whole country, not just taco owners.

63k ram sport, I could get for 47k and 0%. Payments were the same or cheaper than a 42k taco @4.89%. That's all I was trying to say. I already have a loaded 2012 ram sport, so I passed on the 2015 even though it was a smoking deal. I just couldn't pay what they now want for the taco, when they have a little wiggle room on price and 0.9% it'll make it easier to purchase for me. My next purchase will be a taco, I can gaurentee that.

What is an AC short bed? I thought all the AC came with the standard 6ft bed?

This is the much better looking one of the twins. I checked them out before ordering my Taco. But as stated before the reliability and resale value were very important to me. I also had to have a sunroof and really wanted the push button start as well. The lean is way too much on the gms

back on topic. from the front and backsides, I probably like the look of the canyon a little better. side profile, tacoma wins. just my personal taste.

I didn't test drive the GMC or chevy, so can't speak to any of those details. I've always thought the interiors on GM cars were cool and well thought out, even if plastic-y and cheap feeling. That stuff doesn't bother me. In fact, my last chevy pickup I bought with manual trans and no power door locks / windows to save some money and loved that interior. Still looked great after 7 years of owning it.

Hope the tacoma does even better.
