Hey guys, I have been reading through a lot of the threads that are already on this forum, yet I am not able to find anything that resembles what I am hearing. If I'm just missing the appropriate threads I apologize.

The sound I am hearing began recently, or I noticed it recently. It appears to be coming from the engine compartment. It doesn't sound like a slipping or something. I wouldn't say it was a grinding, rattling, or rubbing. It happens when I press the accelerator pedal, and happens when before the rpms increase, and then goes away.

I'm really lost as I don't know what it could possibly be because it happens before the engine does anything.

If you guys have any ideas of what it could be, I would appreciate the help.

What does the sound resemble? Buzzing, ticking, screeching? More information or a video would definitely help determine the noise.

Does it sound like the noise a rollercoaster makes when you are slowly ascending towards the top? If so, probably the taco-tick. And if so, it's normal.

I probably should have said this in the original write-up, but I've had the Taco for over three years. And the sound is not normal. I guess it's more of a whining than anything else.

Audio Clip would help us to help you.

Though it's very likely you're hearing the Taco Tick. (Toyota engines make a fluttering sound). Could also be hearing the secondary air pump they put in these stupid things.

I'll have to get the video tomorrow. I'd have to say it was a whining if I really had to attach a label to it.

Could it be that smog pump, or any of the other emissions crap they have on there?

Is this when sitting still (engine unloaded) or when driving (engine loaded)? Or both?

If both, it's likely to be something external like various bits others have suggested.

If only loaded, it's more likely to be internal in nature, like pinging or pre detonation.
