Pretty sure my water pump seal has been leaking lightly since this summer. Never took care of it because the fluid barely drops. Nothing else is missing fluid and from the diagrams I have found for the four cylinder this is the water pump area. Bottom of engine passenger side is where these pictures are from. Stuff looks oily but doesnt't smell it.

ETA: The only reason I don't suspect the thermostat is because the temperature reading from the ultraguage hasn't been the same since the thermostat was changed. That was around june. Think last winter I had a bad tstat because even running the heat the engine temp could hit 190-194 while driving at -20 temps. This morning at -2 it would only get into the 190's while idling. If the truck was moving she was running 186-188. This is with a spec 185 degree tstat for the 4cyl. I could even believe a blocked radiator but the system really hasn't been touched since the tstat was changed in el paso in june. It ran fine on 100 degree days this summer sticking right around 188.

Hello @Hartford, in those photos you posted, you are looking at the crankshaft dampener, not the water pump pulley. The water pump pulley is above and to the right of the crankshaft dampener if you're standing at the front of the truck looking into the engine bay. The water pump is shaped like a cock and balls. The water pump weep-hole will be behind the pulley. Usually you need an inspection mirror and flashlight to see it. If the water pump is going bad, you will see dried coolant residue around the weep-hole or wet coolant dripping out of it.

But the issue could also be an air pocket in the cooling system, intake system vacuum leak, failing coolant temp. sensor, slipping serpentine belt, etc. It's really hard to troubleshoot it through the internet. I used to live in Bountiful and the Tunex on Main St. just north of 2600 S. had several excellent mechanics. I'd recommend them over a dealership and if you prefer OEM parts as I do, they happen to be walking distance from the Toyota dealer.

Hey guys, I am not sure if this is the right section to post this or not, if not I apologize. I wanted to post it here rather than the marketplace forum since I am not interested in shipping these, but would like to keep the sale local (I'm in West Jordan, UT). Anyway, I have a set of brand new takeoffs (tires only) from a 2016 TRD Off Road - so they are the Goodyear Wrangler All Terrains with Kevlar that I have been trying to sell on KSL classifieds and can't get so much as a text offer for them. I think my problem is most vehicles now have rims larger diameter than 16" and there just is not much of a market for a 16" tire anymore (save Tacomas and some older jeeps). If you guys or anyone you know is in need of some new all terrains I will make you a screaming deal. My KSL ad is here - https://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=37354892&cat=599

Hey, just checkin in. Is there snow in the SLC/Ogden area? I know the mountains should be covered by now...oh and any suggestions for hiking/exploring down south? Been to San Rafael Swell, Zion, Arches, Moab. Just trying to find some hidden stuff while on leave :)

Been there. It's right next to the Swell. It's a really nice place. I remember there were some real "special" people that were destroying some of the kolobs/formations.
Have you been to Antelope Island?

There is snow up in the canyons. Maybe about 6-12 inches.

Have you been to Canyonlands NP? I just got back from driving the White Rim trail. It was pretty awesome...

No, I haven't. Canyonlands is actually one of the only ones I haven't been to.
Has anyone been to Goosenecks SP? I've seen pictures, but wondering if there is anything else out there.

Anyone have a copy of their frame inspection notification letter from Toyota. I swore I filed mine, but can't find it. What I am curious to find out is if it specifies whether or not passed frames will receive the corruson resistant compound coating...I thought I read we would, but I know of at least one local member who went to two separate deleaships and was refused the CRC application.

I'll look when I get home tonight. I probably still have mine. 2.5 months since mine frame was ordered and counting...

Edit: Found this document that I got from someone on here when I was researching mine. Here's the relevant page, but if you pm me your email I'll send it to you.

So it appears my initial thought is correct. If the frame passes, it should be undercoated.

Is that true? My vin was on the recall and when they did the inspection they said it was "fine" and did nothing more. They also shredded the recall letter...

According to the procedural chart Fred posted. If it passes it gets coated, if it fails it gets a new frame...

I posted about this once before here but I am pretty motivated to get my trailer project to a new home. If someone is looking for a good start to an offroad trailer and knows how to weld, this would be a great start. Let me know if you are interested and I will work with you on a price.

I would love to have a trailer but with my schedule I am having to decide between working on adventure projects or actually having adventures. I am more interested in the latter so I need to thin out the projects.

Is there anyone north or salt lake that has an SWR meter I might borrow? I need to install a radio for an upcoming trip, and I'd rather not buy a meter if I don't have to.
