    So boned out a big bull moose would be around 5 backpack trips. That's not to bad actually.

    The smallest moose I ever field dressed was probably 700 to 800 hoof. Spike on one side, tiny palm with 3 points too small to count as legal points on the other. He was on an any bull tag and fell about 75 feet from where we could beach the boat. We had to pack him another 15 feet or so from the boat to the meat pole in the garage once we got the boat home. Got 200 to 250# of freezer meat off him, I agree about a third of hoof weight makes it to the freezer.

    The biggest one I ever field dressed was 44" wide, but he had 4 brow tines on one side, we were hunting a 4 (brow tine) or 50 (antler width) area, thus "4&50" in the local parlance, so legal on a regular harvest tag. He was an athletic sob lemme tell ya. 22 miles from the nearest paved road, the hind quarters were about 150# each. We dropped him about noon, left the bagged quarters in the snow on a ridge top and got back to camp after dark. 19 inches of snow fell overnight...

    I got some pics on my pc, posting from phone tonight. Look at topo maps real careful for a draw or valley that is at an angle to both am and pm prevailing winds. The cows will be out of the wind and the bulls will be where the cows are.

    @OZ-T Rears only.

    I thought about some 1.25 spacers and light ladder style chains in front but am bringing along some of these instead. 2 pairs. They will clear the UCA's with my 235's. I doubt I will need fronts but will have this in case. Can also throw them on the back if I just want something simple and quick in a pinch. They were only 25 bucks a pair. (USD)

    Cut it short to get home for a medical emergency. Had a blast for a few days but zero snow and zero moose sign in the limited area we were allowed to hunt.

    Yeah its a little Chiappa 22/410 over under. Also shot a mouse that snuck into the wall tent one night while we were drinking. Both with the 22.
