order a new tailgate from the dealer.
probably not worth going through insurance and dealing with the increased rates after having it fixed

This must have been some incline. 4WD was involved? I'm trying to imagine hitting my open tail gate on the ground but I don't think my prerunner is capable of getting itself in that situation...

One can never have too many light bars.
Almost like OP was backing up on a super steep drive way.

What does the backup camera show when the tailgate is down?

4wd drive wasn't needed. I really only use it in sandy or muddy conditions. It was on a hill above a dirt road so they meet each other like this _/ . Not that steep obviously but you get the idea. And the backup camera is useless when the tailgates down. And I found out I dislocated my knee.

Sorry to hear about your incident. Dislocated knee ...... OUCH ... been there ... done that ... got the T-shirt. I used to moto-cross MANY YEARS ago on a Suzuki RM250.......

Get healed up and better ... the tail gate will be a token of a great story. In another 6 months you will probably be able to find one on EBay.

    Head unit. That's it.
For all of those who are wondering how he could back up into the road....typically to avoid using ramps, people will back up to ground that is close to the height of the tailgate when down to just ride into the bed when loading dirtbikes and 4 wheelers. I would assume this was the intent of the OP. But, maybe not. Anyhow, I hope you heal up quickly OP. That sucks. Good news is you still have your leg, and the truck is an inanimate object that can be fixed.

Went to a local body shop, they repaired it for $600.00, the other option was a new tailgate which cost $1000 plus labor. They did a great job and I got it back in one day. Unfortunately my insurance did not cover it.

Looks good to me! Hope you're feeling better. Shit happens, it's just a truck and a little cash. :)

Generally it's a "pics or it didn't happen" answer from insurance.

Depends on the insurance you have. Mine asked no questions. Got my truck and my dads truck done at the same time said the tree fell on both of ours haha

    Bone Stock.Why mess with perfection?Except...
No. The important bit we seem to be missing is that the OP didn't post any pics of his dislocated knee. Pics of X-rays would be even cooler. Oh, and pics of the ER bill. $hit, I don't know if I want to see that. Show us your pics! Show us your pics! Show us your pics!
