No one makes all those changes to their normal everyday cars to drive them on the autobahn. Most cars are just fine at 100-120 (if they can reach it).

The most important safety factors for driving at speed are the tire speed ratings, and the driver speed ratings.

Doesn't matter how fast you go. Always someone in another vehicle thinking" oh yea, I can go 5 mph faster". It's the common mentality of bad drivers going 15mph or so over the speed limit.
Its the same skiing/snow/icey roads. 40mph in 1 situation on a straight away, and i got passed by at least 10 more mph( think of gravel flung at your truck !), so i passed him on the apex as he was going 0 mph stuck in the ditch. Yea i grudgingly stopped to make sure all was ok.It happens yearly
Think i went 75mph once in mine, I-84 in oregon is 65 speed limit, would still be ticket if I got pulled over. That oughta bore ya!:D
Each region/city is a bit different, some of you talking of going 85 -90mph. That doesnt bother me on open, striaght, 75mph max freeways, as long as there is ample sight line and low traffic, and the driver is staying FOCUSED on driving.

Excellent post Piercedtiger! I'm comfortable knowing that if my '90 yr Toy 4X4 Pickup would do 110 plus. Well i am damn sure my 06 Taco wil get there just a little faster. I think the govs. are set for 118MPH in talking to my service advisor. also if the vehicle is still under warranty and the dealer finds out (ECU)about speeding they have been known to reset it for lower speed.at least until the waranty expires. P.S. the domestic trucks are governed for about 97MPH

I'm not sure if you're from there... but I grew up in Astoria, and spent plenty of time in P-town... then I got stationed here. I got rear ended my first week here, and almost in an accident 3 times in the first 2 months because people drive insane here. Most speed limits on the highways are 55, but everyone consistently drives 75 and the cops will just watch you pass, if they don't pass you going faster. I drove home a little while ago, and the minute I hit I-84 on the OR border I had a cop on my ass. He tailed me, but let me go, I was only 10'ish over when he caught up to me. Driving in this place is going to get me in trouble if I ever leave.

for the 'Top speed' note... I've had my taco a little over 100 max, and the thing felt extremely unstable. I won't do it again. I've been up to 140 in my old 88 prelude and that thing was BUILT for that speed. It was comfortable. The tacoma, is not.

To my Oregon counter-part... Imagine making it from Milwaukie to Astoria in 45 minutes. I did it :)

yea, the urban limit is 50-55mph for Portland, i shoulda reffered to the Gorge area where it goes up to 65.I'm Originally from Pendleton area though.

Dont care what comes of this; Most Portlanders are self absorbed and 2 faced as a Totem pole! I never seen a group of people talk about "green" but go 80 (20mph+ over)in their suburus, or go past accidents that are fresh but never stop.

By the way, there is no point in comparing how fast your speedometer read when the limiter kicked in, because speedometer accuracy gets worse as the speed goes up. For example, mine is off by 5%. At 30 mph it reads a little over, at 70 mph it reads about 73-74, and (though I do not drive much over 70) if it were going 110 I would expect it to read somewhere just over 115.

The speedometer error varies from truck to truck, so I may be going 66 when my speedometer reads 70, but you might be going 68 or 64 when your speedometer reads 70.

my speedo said 80 but the g.p.s. said 74. I like leaving it in the truck, its just a hand held model i use hunting or hiking. For no reason I plot routes that I have been on countless times. (basicly when you tell everyone you hiked 25 mi and now you know its actually 3-4mi shorter. GPS is nice, it takes out relevent errors)

Well, be sure to post that you went fast on a closed road or track- or you are sure to be preached to in advance!

I don't know about alot of your trucks but mine is just as stable as it can be at 113mph. I think without the governor these trucks will do 130 or more possibly.

A lot of people don't like the thought of going fast in these trucks and I understand- but there is a huge market for performance trucks like the Ford Lightning, Dodge Ram w/ viper engine, Cummins Diesels, GMC Syclones, etc.... Plus there is even a NASCAR truck series.

Just be safe, do it on a closed road like me, or track :)

This truck might end up being one of the few vehicles I haven't gone over 100 in. I've had it up to 95 once with the lift and 32 MT's. But with the kinda twitchy steering due to stock UCA's, ghetto revtek, higher COG and the MT tires, doubt I will break 100. The 32's don't really make it any easier for the 4 banger to pick up speed quick either. If a vehicle that tall decides to get out of shape, forget about trying to save it at triple digit speeds. 110 MPH and a little crosswind and see ya. I have no doubt I could hit 110 but not willing to kill myself or anybody else to find out.

I've done 150 on the nose in my 350Z though, more or less redlined in 5th gear (still had 6th gear). Could have done more but was running out of straight road.

The 2003 Yamaha R1 I had, indicated 172 or 173. Now that was fun!! And even that had more left as well. Another case of not enough road.

Doin 120 in a taco cant be a big deal, governer aside. Get a jeep wrangler with 33s and a big lift and try it now lol. Either way, just no need to do it. Its a truck, talk about how much air you got offroading.

I have an old program (CarTest) that computes some expected performance variables for a car. It expects the V6 Auto Prerunner to have a top speed of 116, and the 6spd to have a top speed of 121. That's assuming an 0.45 coefficient of drag.

Guess I can update mine... Couldn't get it over 99 according my scan gauge last time I tried it, then about a month ago I had the AC on, GPS in, and hit 107 (according to the GPS) trying to catch my buddy on his bike. Caught up and slowed back down. Surprised the shit outta both of us.

I'm in a 2014 v6 Prerunner and can honestly say I felt comfortable at 95, and have caught myself slipping over 90 on road trips on multiple occasions... with a little help from waze of course. Though I've never taken her over 100. Mostly I'd like to know my chances of dying before I make an attempt? :fingerscrossed::bananadead: Thanks.

Ummm 85-90? I don't feel safe or smart going any faster in a lifted truck. I'm not impressed with people who do. Go that fast in the dirt and I'll be impressed.

I've been comfortable at 130+ in my Lexus. Still not smart or safe.
