I would do coilovers unless it's a pavement princess then. Even some spacer kits state they are not to be used off road.

is that for front,, can you be more specific so i know what i am kinda talking about when i go to shop. The dealer shouldn't have sold me this stuff in first place, i am going to call him tomorrow and see if he got any pull. I would be willing to pay difference. Whats something like this usually run installed. Also are we talking the front and rear suspension components or just front.

In my experience the icons ride much better than Toyotec.

Not sure how one would evaluate that unless they were able to perform a study using the same exact truck.
Too many factors there that can influence the quality of ride (Model Tacoma, preload on coils, Terrain, Tires.....)

Which rides better???? Flip a coin.
Which performs better in the dirt, that's a toss up too and depends on the type of offroading or the duration of the offroading trip.

IMO no one can answer this question if you really think about it. Aside from the design differences, there's interpretation which also heavily influences ones opinion of ride quality.

Why not. If you blow out the ball joint then replace them

If it helps any, I had a spacer lift on my 06 tacoma for 10 years, and it just cause more suspension problems (clunking, destroyed my shocks) and a horrible ride. This time I went the 521600 spring with top plate and 5100s at 0. Cost only 300 dollars more than my spacer. I have yet to install it, because I'm waiting for my delivery :) but seeing Jerrytacos post on his buddies truck with the same lift, sold me. He said it felt like stock ride compared to his stiff icons for road use. Perfect for me since I will barely be offroading. That's just my 2 cents.

What I don't get is that everyone bashes spacer lifts but you achieve lift from 5100s by compressing the spring (raising the clip on the strut) exactly like how a spacer lift from Toytec does. Ride quality will be stiffer. Others say why spend $30K+ on a new truck and buy a cheap spacer lift. Ummm, because all the money went to purchase the truck. I've installed tons of Toytec spacer lifts on Tundras, Tacomas, and 4Runners with absolutely no problems whatsoever on any one of them. Also no complaints from the owners. I'm only against above strut spacers because of the strut taking the load before the bump stops do. Seems like everyone on here has deep pockets and the only way to not get bashed on suspension mods is to run $1,900 Fox Factory 2.5 remote reservoir coilovers with DSC with $700 Camburg uniball upper control arms or equivalent. If money was not an object i would definately chose a coilover set up over a spacer lift but in reality money is an object.

Like I said Im keeping my 5100s at 0. No preloading for me.

Because a lot of people have no idea what they are talking about. They have no experience working on vehicles or in engineering. They just read and say what other say and the board sponsors.

5100 still push down the control arms just like a spacer will. If you adjust it for more height it rides like a rock from compressing the spring. Yes the strut has more travel capabilities by 1 or 2 inches.

Over the strut spacers do not make the vehicle ride harder. If you drop the diff and sway bar you keep all your alignments. No one with 5100 even speaks about that.

As for the strut taking all the pressure if fully compressed is an easy fix. Adjust the bump stop to prevent it so you can't crush the strut. Simple

I did the ready lift 3/2 with diff and sway bar drop. I made a bump stop spacer also. I also modified the rear ebrake cable hanger so it doesn't pull at full extension. Tires are goodyear wrangler duratracs 285/70r 17 with spidertrax spacers. Since I don't do heavy off roading they are fine. If I was going to get crazy with the truck I'd just buy wheels with the correct offset.

I have the same set up but my wheels had the correct backspace, 4.5. How did you adjust/drop the bump stops to match the lift? Just bent a strut and Have been looking for hours on a fix before I replace the bent strut.

I just made a back spacer for it. I jacked up the suspension to see where it bottom out. Then I threaded out the stop till it hit. Then made a spacer.

Seems simple enough. My son followed me out of the woods. I was riding a 4 wheeler, he jumped a small hill with his truck. No jumping with spacers. Street ride only. I will adjust the stops just in case.
