I tried the ect with cruise and the ect to me only helps while accelerating, when you get to cruising speed the trans settles as if in normal drive. As far as fuel economy I've been driving my truck spirited and I average 19-21 depending on my speed, very pleased with that. I'm hoping the trans "learns" my driving habit which is why I've been driving kind of spirited.

My wife has an grand Cherokee with 3.6 and the 8 speed and that son of a gun runs like a scalded dog and has better road manners than my Tacoma. Plus that little 3.6 pentestar sounds Ballsy as hell compared to the 3.5

Do the sports offer paddle shifters? I only have the semi auto stick feature. Also.... does anyone else's taco idle rev fluctuate? Mine does.

Does the '16 still use a conventional power steering pump? That could be what's causing the jump.

I noticed my idle rev was fluctuating with the AC running. When I turned the AC off it stopped.

It's the tires man. I was getting 19+ consistently with a semi heavy foot, put on 285 AT tires and the 16MPG switch was activated. I'm now getting 16MPG consistently. Mine is the 4cy manual, but if EPA MPG estimations are correct we should be getting similar MPGs. Tires make the biggest different in MPG and I went in knowing it, but its the price you pay if you offroad. I'm wondering if regearing might help a little as it feels undergeared as one would expect and I have to compensate with extra throttle.

Also transmission is definitely acting up because of the bigger tires. You need to regear your axles, not even for shifting problems but for longevity.

Yes, my 16 OR does this when idling in park only. Very annoying, it feels like someone bumped the truck when it happens. I thought it was when the cooling fan was kicking on. Will have to see if its only with the AC on.

I've got a 3" lift and 285/70r17s on an automatic TRD Off-Road and I consistantly get between 16 -17 mpg combined. In the city mpg is terrible but I just did a trip from the Springs to Denver and averaged just over 21 mpg. I've found that the truck really does well on the highway....but it's inconsistant. Some trips I get a lot of shifting and running at higher RPMs and my mpg is no good and other trips(same roads) the truck really settles in and cruises along just fine. I haven't figured out why that happens yet.

Same here, very inconsistent. I drive the same 40 mile round trip stretch of highway with zero traffic almost daily and some times it gets 18 MPG and sometimes it gets 24. I don't even notice it shifting much differently. And I doubt it's wind either. No idea what's going on.

I have a 2010 TDR Sport and at times when stop at a light, it feels like my bumper was slightly hit. I don't consider this a big deal.

I don't have experience with your tires OP, but I think one could probably assume it has more rolling resistance than stock (obviously depending on tire construction and pressure).

I don't know if you used the cruise control, but I think I might have helped out my mileage by not using it. It seems counter intuitive, but it is what it is. Now that I think about it, I will give it another shot tomorrow since I am over 1300 miles now and see if that made any difference. I used to get 17-17.5mpg commuting 60 miles daily using CC (about 50 of which are semi hilly hwy miles). Now I get 18.5+ without the auto pilot. I also recently got 20mpg on my short thanksgiving road trip, which was about 325miles round trip on the highway.

I think maybe it takes it too long to decide to give it more throttle to maintain speed (possibly too large of a mph tolerance), in turn delaying the downshift and by then it has to jump from 6th to 4th--and holds it for the entire grade! If I don't use cruise control, I can either start squeezing a little more throttle to trigger a downshift to 5th as I start the hill, or click down on the shifter when I see the speedo dropping a little at my current foot input. On grades where the CC always shifts to 4th, I can easily make it in 5th.

Another way I sometimes gain a bit more mpg on the highway is with the instant read gage. You can get to 80mph (sometimes 85) on downhills with really light throttle input--keeping the gage at almost 30. I realize it is a little fast for some, but when conditions allow, it benefits you on the upcoming hill as you glide back down to the proper speed, sometimes avoiding a downshift:anonymous:

I know what you're talking about my 07 did it. It's reffered to as the driveline bump-very common and not really an issue. That's not it. This is from some type of accessory cutting on and putting a draw on the charging system so much the RPMS change and the truck rocks/bumps. Just something to add to the list of issues with my 16.

I was at a stop light and it felt like someone hit my rear bumper also. I kept staring at the girl through mirror thinking "did she just hit me"?
