I just bought an '01 leer she'll for my '00 Tacoma. I got it for a super deal from a guy in my state, only problem is that with my bedliner (the over the lip plastic kind) it is barely too large, like probably a millimeter too wide so that one corner won't ever fall in place. I'm planning on cutting off the carpeted portion on the outside, and probably sanding the wood down a little as well to make it fit. Does this sound like a good idea? I'll probably also have to cut into my liner to give the clamps a place to grab. Just figured I'd post this here on case anyone has had a similar problem but found a solution. Thanks!

Absolutely no idea what you are referring to. How about a picture?

why not just remove the bed liner instead of modifying everything else? seams like a no brainer and the bed liner can be removed in 5 minutes

I had a Leer on my 01 Tacoma with bed rail covers, with no issues mounting - a "millimeter" would not have made a difference. I would guess you would need to cut the liner to accommodate the clamps up under the rail. Or just trim off the under-the-rail part altogether of the liner.

For the life of me, I cannot understand what you are referring to "cutting off carped on outside" or "sanding wood down". My Leer had no carpet on the outside(just lined the inside) or wood anywhere. Pics of what you are referring to would probably get more responses as many people here have Leer toppers.

If Im understanding you correctly, I had a similar issue mounting my snug top over my plastic liner. For me the thickness of the plastic liner decreased the opening of the bed space where the shell sits just enough to give me problems. I was able to wedge the sides of the shell inward ever so slightly for the shell to slide down into place. The tight space must have permentantly deformed the shell to the needed width because the tolerance was perfect the next time I had to install it.

And yeah, I had to drill new holes in the liner to accomidate the clamps as well.

Sorry it's really difficult to get pics of this. The carpeted walls on the inside of the shell fold over about an inch to the outside where the shell sits in the bed. I was able to peel it up and should be easy to cut off.
The wood I'm referring to is just the bottom lip of the shell, it may be fiberglass actually but I figure I could shave it down by sanding.
I may consider taking out the bed liner all together, but would like to keep it lined somehow, anyone know the options and costs of something different?
