I did the kicker cs68 speakers and they were exact fit using the 1/4" spacers, they sound fantastic

if you want 6x9 then you will have to make your own speaker housing for it and then the door panel will also have to be cut to fit it.

no its the frame that hits, the metal frame cone on aftermarket speakers are deeper but the oem ones are very flat so its the metal frame that holds the magnet that is the problem and if you cut the plastic housing its going to be cut off completely so the speaker isnt being held securely if you cut it. its sorta an all or nothing thing, use the oem plastic housing without modifying it or throw it away and make your own from scratch and figure out how to align it with the speaker grille in the door panel. I would just go with the cs68 speakers and spacers, the small difference in 6x9 isn't worth the hassle in my opinion unless your doing a custom sound system with sub woofers and large amps.

I just installed JBL 6x9 in front doors. Ordered them through Crutchfield and they included the spacers at no additional charge.
May not be as large as the Kickers but worth a look.
