is this the infamous Tacoma tick I have read about? It is super annoying and its definitely noticeable when I'm in the cab. Can anyone reassure me that it's normal or should I get it check out?

Sounds like the normal taco tick. It should go away ince the motor is warmed up.
I some times notice it in the summer at a red light when the ac is on but it is loudest in the winnter when I am letting it warm up for a moment or two.
if its been down near 0 at night or below it is wicked loud but always goes away.

    Cheers

I have a TRD OR 4x4 V6 auto .... I don't have any ticking? I have 5500 miles on mine. I will double check in the morning when I leave, and turn on/off AC etc to see if any of that makes a sound.

The direct injection system is much louder than an old port injection system. nothing to worry about.

This is exactly when I noticed mine doing this. As soon as I started to pull away it stops.

Good to know its not an issue.

Anyone have more info on this...what is the actual clicking your hearing from?

Most of the noise is the high pressure fuel pump mounted on the engine

I hope it's what you all are suggesting and its normal. The clicking is very rhythmic....about 4 clicks per second is how fast the clicking is. I do notice that it stops when I rev the engine but that's just might be the engine getting louder. I will try to post a audio clip or video clip to get your feedback

Thats it. Although I can only hear it in a garage with the window don or parked next to a wall.

Yep, got the tick, was noticing it more today than previously, I'll assume it's normal since it runs fine.

i purchased a 2016 toyota tacoma sr5 in fall 2015. at first it sounded good, but 15 months later the truck start to sound like a old diesel truck. i've talked to multiple dealership and had them check up on them, they take it to the back so no one can see it and compare it with another one that the same year and they say they sound both completely normal. i've talk to a couple mechanic that work there and they know the noise is odd but they cant do nothing because the dealer wont approve it unless it from customer service. I contacted customer service and she kept saying she will resolve this but all that been done is me driving to other dealership and getting the same results. for me i don't this car no more primarily because the noise irritate me and the toyota dealers won't do anything to make it better.

If the engine sounds like a diesel then it is just engine in direct injection mode.

Two different noises. The self cleaning is more a tick. The loud clacking is fuel pump
