Still too much work. I prefer to wallow around in my filth and my copilot usually complains.

Same. If I'm in the woods, the last thing I care about is what I smell like. Unless I smell like shit. Then I'll drink whisky and forget about it.

My limit is 3 days before I at least wipe down. Usually I still wipe my face, neck and arms each morning.

If it was between the two mentioned, I would go Osprey. My buddy loves Osprey and his pack has held up for a long long time. I keep telling him he needs to get a new one, but that thing is solid and has never failed him. I for one am partial to my Gregory Baltoro 65. I don't know if your pack is strictly hiking, backpacking, general use, etc... So I would suggest that you go find a store and start trying packs on with some weight in them. Thats how I learned about the Baltoro and ultimately bought it over the Osprey Aether. Super comfy and wasn't too far off the prices mentioned in your links.

This is a good site for this pack. When you get your next pack, get measured and fitted. I say this because I have two different sized harness/hip belts and it made a huge difference in long distance hiking.

The Gregory "Z" and "Stout" series are pretty nice packs as well. Plus almost all of them include a rain cover.

    Thoughts...?

Your buddy won't have to get a new one if his every actually does break on him. Ospreys warranty is any pack, any reason even from any era and they'll fix or replace it no questions asked. I know an older dude who had a mangled pack from way back and they didn't have parts to fix it when he finally sent it in so they just asked if it was okay to send him a brand new equivalent pack. Osprey is legit.

The reason I was looking at the TNF bag is because it has rope carrying and helmet carry features. I don't do a ton of backpacking but the one bag I have over 30L is the the biggest POS and I don't even like carrying it through the house. My last trip this last weekend I used a 30L REI traverse I have had forever. I tried on the Osprey on at the store and the fit was nice. I also tried on the Atmos AG both nice packs.

It really is easily the best "general use" pack on the market that I've found. But for those who go ultralight I really like the GG Gorilla (26oz) and ULA Ohm 2.0 (32.5oz) and of course the Exos (38oz).

For weight reference the Atmos 50 is 63 oz.

I used a ULA for 3 months on the PCT, and loved it. Bought it back in 2002 from the company owner Brian. He did all the sewing for the custom packs himself. Great guy super knowledgable. Since then the company has been sold to new owners. In my pack i had to use my closed-cell thermarest unfolded, and wrapped around the inside perimeter of the pack, to create some sort of structure for putting stuff inside. Going light is great, less stress on your joints, and many more benefits. Just don't cut the handle off your tooth brush! On the PCT, we called the guys who did that "gram weenies" lol

LOL I totally did that on the JMT :spy: but I had a cheap heavy Teton pack and was trying to compensate for weight everywhere.

I've considered a teardrop too but if I'm towing something then yes, I would much rather get a full size RV with a bathroom. As long as I'm tent camping I really don't worry about it

Trust me, next time I won't bother. It's not worth the inconvenience of a short handle, but it sure did help when packing the cut one in my bear canister earlier in the trip when it was still packed to the brim. I have a folding lightweight one that I'll take now.

Just got one of these Honda 2000 generators for anything I would need it for at home and in case of power outages or emergencies. But also bought it just as much for extended camping trips!

I just ordered the new smaller model Toaks titanium gasifier stove last week (started shipping 11/25) and it arrives today. Can't wait to check it out and test fit it in my various titanium cook pots. It's measurements show it will next inside of the Vargo BOT, and pretty much any other cook pot or cup I own, which I'm excited about. It will be going in the BOB for sure. Should be arriving today, according to tracking. I'm very happy with the performance of the original larger model, even in side-by-side tests with the same fuel in the Solo stove.
