Tires are warranted by the tire manufacturer, not Toyota. They carry a different warranty then the entire rest of the truck. Using the side steps as sliders is more akin to using the front bumper as a garage door opener. Quit trying to turn this into something it isn't.

Summary: I crashed into something. I should see if Toyota will fix it for free!

Yeah, I see it and I stand by everything I've posted.

Ever try to cash in on the tire warranty after the tire shows signs of offroading (pebbled tred and torn sidewalls)? You'll get the same response OP would get for the side steps. It doesn't matter what manufacturer made it. Even aftermarket M/T's don't carry a warranty against that sort of abuse, and if you managed to get one it was only on the good graces of whoever heard your case. In which case, you are in the same moral situation as OP.

Toyota did fix a bunch of trucks that people crashing into shit. Ever hear of the gas pedal issue/nonissue. I guess all of those people have terrible morals.

Let's agree to disagree, but maybe in the future try not to pass judgement on people on here. It would make for a better forum. Where this conversation went had nothing to do with OP's original comment and ended up trashing him over nothing.

    Gotta love the internetz.

Damn super sleuths on this forum! Somehow folks figured out that my plan was to lie to the dealership to swindle them out of a part! I had the perfect story, too. I was going to say that I store the truck in a purpose-built 5000sq/f climate controlled garage, and the step fell off while a dove* hovered just above the step and cleaned it with a feather.

They'd look through the layer of dirt, mud, and scratches to see that yes, this truck really is a garage queen that's regularly waxed with a orphaned seal tears, and fall over themselves in appreciation for my business. But you assholes ruined that.

*The dove is named Frank, and he's fuckin' fired for breaking my step.

Oh, what, now you're busting my balls over whether or not I ram my truck into stuff? That's what the bumper is for, BUMPING IN TO THINGS. If I happen to "bump" it into the garage door at 40mph because I was too hopped up on carb cleaner and speed metal -- I expect a full repair and apology from Toyota.

Well since this thread has come alive again... I'll add... Shitty weld.
Yes, I go on FS roads. No, I do not 'off road' like many of you. But this is my Predator, passenger side, front. Nothing has been hit. Nothing has hit me. Nothing is bent or twisted. But the step plate is depressing from the tube.

Yes, I will be asking for warranty coverage.

Sounds like an open and shut case, and they should warranty it

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Just take the thing to a welder and have them tack it back on. Likely be a $25-30 job and stronger than new.

Nah. During my last service (Last week, actually) I showed the service manager the damage, told him what happened, and asked his opinion. He said the welds were obviously bad, but since I hit them on something it was pretty unlikely the manufacturer would warranty them. So I didn't pursue it.

I pulled them off the next day and installed All-Pro sliders. The predator steps are so light I can hold the entire assembly with my pinky. They never would have stood up to any kind of real off-road abuse anyway, so even if the welds were good I would have trashed the things.
