Quite an achievement to hit a parked car. Answer the door to a police officer and a bunch of emergency vehicles. Pictures here: http://imgur.com/a/AGrsO

I've never had anything like this happen before. Its a 2014 4WD DCSB with 12,000 miles. There's about $2,700 of aftermarket equipment on the truck. The only piece that's custom made is the rear bed rack.

They took the driver away in an ambulance (her vehicle flipped) and the police could not release any of her information to me, so I'll have to try and get that tomorrow.

My insurance company is USAA. It was hard to tell how damaged the chassis was in the rear. The rear driver side wheel/suspension is defininitely messed up.

Would greatly appreciate any advice or tips on what to do about the vehicle itself and whether I should try to go to the tow yard tomorrow to remove all the equipment. I certainly intend to grab the rear rack since it's not easily replaced.

Damn, sorry to hear that. Time to find a garage or somewhere off the street to park your Taco.

Only reason it was on the street was that we just moved in and we're unpacking boxes in the garage :-(

:itllbuffout:.........That sucks man sorry to see a nice truck get damaged. As long as the frame is ok you might make out well. Do the work yourself and get some more add ons. Only cost you time.

Not sure if you will encounter the same problem as other people have, but once it's towed to a yard you will not be allowed to remove anything from the truck except for personal property. Such as CDs, clothes, pictures...

But anything that is connected to the vehicle such as after market parts, lights, radios, camper shell, off road armor cannot be removed.

Do your best to get all you can, but don't be surprised if they don't let you take much.

The towing company will probably not let you remove anything other than personal belongings from the truck, especially if there are outstanding charges. If it were me, I would contact a reputable body shop in your area (doesn't have to be a dealer) and they will pay the charges and have it towed to their facility, bill the insurance and work with you through the whole process. Towing companies charge storage, which insurance companies hate, so they too will be happy to have it moved as soon as possible.

That should be easy, don't take it to a tow yard. You don't have to. I would at least get it into a driveway or garage.

I think they will be able to save it, I tow part time and we actually get a fair amount of calls for parked cars hit. Bright side he strapped it down correctly and didn't stretch out and ruin the frame by using the factory torque box

I made sure to talk to the tow guy and he was real friendly about it. Said I can get it off or he'd do it himself. Hope I can atleast get the rear rack!

I'm on a military base and the MPs wouldn't let me keep it, unfortunately.
