My wife is the type who gets attached to a vehicle. She HATEs when I buy a new vehicle for her .

I am trying to get her into the RAV 4 and out of the CRV but it's a struggle. I guess most would like to have that issue, She just doesn't care about vehicles and what I buy. She hates when I sell hers though and has to get used to a new way of doing everything, kind of like trying to upgrade her phone. She only just gave up her S4 for an S5.

Keep your truck. 16s aren't worth it yet.

If I previously already had a 2nd gen in the configuration I wanted, I wouldn't have gotten a 16. But I didn't, so I bought a 16 to keep me busy for the next decade.

Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe the better plan would be to keep it through this winter, get it detailed in the spring (something my brother can do) and try selling it private party, like you guys said, it will sell, its just harder to sell it that way without title in hand. Plus it will give me time to see what bugs may pop up on the '16s

I'd hate to see you go in more debt when you have a very nice looking truck with low miles.

I'll still be happy with my 2005 5-lug 10 years from now.

    Why not just keep it?
When I wanted to buy a new 2016 TRD I did not want to trade my long paid for 2005 TRD 4X4 LB with 60k. So when I talked about selling it privately the wife about went through the roof. She informed me that no way in hell are we getting rid of that truck! I got a big smile on my face.
When we drove it to the dealership to buy the 2016 the sales people wanted my 05 in trade BAD! They kept bugging me to trade my 2nd gen in. I was keeping a close eye on my parked truck....fearing they may sell it...lol

Well I had a 06 Prerunner 4x2 with 186K on it and got $9800...private sale...the "blue book" was between $9400/$10200...IF mine was a 4x4 I could have easily gotten another $2k for it

$4000-$5000 ACV if you are lucky. You can sell that truck on the street for $7000-$8000 easily. Someone can replace the engine and trans for $8000 or less if they had too and have a great truck

TacoBella I like that train of thought. I bought mine for 35,120 out the door. That's with a 6% tax in good ole Florida. I also think the same way. If you loose 5k a year on a purchase it's like making a lease payment with no mile restriction. Funny I had a dealer two hours from me ask if I wanted the 15 sport I wanted back in July. Only 36,879 OTD. Kindly advised her I was not in the market

If you think you would buy a 16 after paying off the 07 then just get the 16 now I had a 14 mgm prerunner traded it after 2 yrs with 32000 miles on it started my payments all over but I love my new trd sport.Just see what blue book fair market trade is for yours and do the math

No "Howl" on my 16 other than my dog. Your truck must have been built on Friday in Mexico.

Why do people trade-in vehicles? Is it because we have come to believe that this is the best thing to do? Is it because dealers (who want to make a profit on your trade) talk you into it? Or perhaps you have money to burn? If I were driving a Yugo, Pinto, Pacer etc...I might do it...But a used, maintained and not trashed Taco is in high demand why let the dealer make MORE money on the deal when you could be putting this money in your pocket. I don't get it. Two things I don't do - 1)Trade in, 2) Make Payments. Just call me thrifty !

If you own a vehicle, you will always have a payment. Either to the bank or just depreciation and maintenance. I buy and trade every 2-4 years. If you buy vehicles with a higher resale value, it is cheaper than leasing. A lot depends on your interest rate. Bought a 2014 4 runner LTD not even 2 years ago and trading on a 16 Tacoma. What I paid vs trade in comes out to $250 per month is what I actually paid to drive it. A lease would have been double that. Traded 09 Tacoma for the runner and that came out to less than $200 per month to drive it.
