I know, some people ask WAY to much for these things. And the sad part is, people pay out for them.

not this one. been listed for 317 days. almost a year. i mean with the 4x4 SBDC and a nice headpiece installed, it may be worth 11000. but definitely not the 16 hes asking for.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It's because they're damn good trucks and last a long damn time. Quality holds value, that is why Toyota trucks are among the top vehicles in the world for resale value. Even my '79 Pickup 4x4 in average condition would still fetch 5k easily and it's over 30 years old!

I paid 13.5k for my DC with 74k on it at the time and would do it again in a second. This truck continues to impress me more and more!

That still seems a bit high. When I was in the market for mine back in 06 the local dealer had a low mileage 04 4x4 extended cab for 14k. I ended up with a 99 4x4 trd 2.7 5spd for 7200 if i remember right.

I seen or heard somewhere that the early tacomas had the #1 resale value for those years. (idk if thats just trucks or everything but a jeep came second)

There actually pretty rare in my province and barely pop up for sale but when they do they go for big money.

Come out her to California where frame rust isnt an issue. A 2wd gen 1 will bring $7-8 grand any day on a clean truck. $15 grand for a 4x4 crew cab isnt unheard of out here. Bluebook isnt even used on them because the going price is so much higher

    Supply and demand !!

When selling anything it is easier to lower the price . I might add 30% to 40% to what I really will take because some fool is likely to pay the asking price.

Has anyone buying anything ever offered more then the asking price because you felt the item in question was worth more ??

Tacomas right now are like Harleys used to be in the 90's. People want them and can't get them so they're willing to pay for them. I just sold my 2nd gen to go back to 1st gen and paid the dealer more than I'd care to admit on here. Thing is though I knew the guy and he showed me what they paid for it at auction and it was high too. I gave them 1000 over what they paid at auction and he wasn't taking a penny less. Said he'd have it sold before the week was out at that price.

Very true, I just totaled my 2004 Tacoma with 255,500 miles on it bought it new in 05 so Im looking at different manufactorers (Nissan Frontier) who offer a considerally less MSRP than the used and new 2016 Taco(ugly as hell). I don't think Toyota can match the add ons that the Frontier(loaded) has for the price they ask for a plain SR5 costs 5k-6k dollars more. Ive had 3 Toyota trucks in my lifetime all were awesome trucks but the MSRP on what they are offering is at this time out of my range for what I would like to pay. I really cant justify paying the same amount for a used Taco that I could spend on buying a fully loaded new Frontier for, in all honesty Im a Toyota truck fanatic but the Frontier seems to be as reliable and durable as the later model Tacos that Ive read in reviews for considerally less moolah.:crapstorm:

Some - dealers especially - over price used Tacoma's. But if you're willing to do some research, check similarly equipped miles/year Rangers, Frontier's, Chevys, Mazda's, etc. There's a reason why Tacoma's are consistently priced well above everything else. They're better built, and remain functional for much longer than the competition. And if buyers didn't agree with that - they'd be buying more used Rangers and Frontiers.

I see more used Rangers running around than 1st gen Tacoma's. Not to bag on the truck, but it's worth so much here because they are hard to find with the frame in one piece. The rust problem on the 1st gens was just unreal around here and we don't salt our roads... finding one in good shape is a bit like finding a diamond in the rough. Hopefully with all the people fluid filming and coating their frames now the last few 1st gen trucks, and 2nd gen trucks, will stick around longer.

I agree my 04 before the totaled crash was on its way to 300k miles or more no doubt, but Im hearing that Nissan Frontiers going 200k mark and still ok. And also having 3 Toyota consecutively I want a change but I also know Tacos reliability is bulletproof, but Nissan although less reliable but not much behind Toyota but far greater reliabilty than Chevy,Ford. My other problem with the 2016 is its looks that bitch has a face only a mother could love, I checked out a bare bones quad cab SR5 with steelies and I hated the new body configuration totally sucked IMO for 5k-6k $$ more than a loaded Frontier with alloys.

Rangers were the number one selling compact truck in America while they were still in production. Considerably cheaper than all the others and they were abundantly popular as fleet vehicles. Tacomas hold their value better simply because they have a much better track record than the others, the frames are the only real achilles heel to the trucks, and that isn't just a Tacoma problem, it goes back to the Toyota Pickup trucks too. As far as the running gear goes, they are nearly flawless and deliver unmatched reliability over the long haul that the other trucks can only dream about.
