    same shit as everyone else
So camping in my RTT for the first time in sub freezing temps next weekend. Normally we use a heated blanket to a battery for sub 30 degree weather but the wife isn't happy about 0 to negative 10 degree weather. Battery only keeps up warm for about 6 hours. I was looking at a MR heater that takes the colman grendaes but it doesnt have a tip off feature. Any advice or what are you useing?

You could try a power timer for the blanket. Turn the blanket off for 10 minutes every hour to extend the use.

I agree with Doording. Get extra blankets and youll be fine.

I use a Mr Buddy heater when going ot bed and when i wake up. But i dont run it all night. Its nice to have a warm tent to enter when going ot bed and then warm up the tent before getting out of the covers!

This is exactly what I did 2 weeks ago in yosemite. It was about 40s during the day and 20s at night. I had a sleeping bag + liner that kept me warm all night, would even need to open up the bag a little to cool off at night. I ran a Mr Buddy heater for 3-5 minutes before I was going to get into the tent and then again for a few minutes in the morning to warm up the tent and warm up my clothes. Worked well for me.

We use a Mr. Heater Little Buddy with great success. It has a CO2 monitor and tip shut off. We only use it before bed to preheat and when we wake up to take off the morning chill. It's worked great so far.

*** No, I don't place it by my face, this was taken for illustrative purposes. ***

So i have looked through a bunch of the pages and have a question.
Are any of you just mounting your RTT in the factory rack. I have a CVT Shasta and have a factory rack.
Truck is 1 week old and don't what to mess it up.
    Thanks for the advice.

I did personally for about 2 months.. FUCKING SUCKED ASS... the Oem roof rack was too big/wide for how i wanted to mount it, and the space underneath the rack is too short to tighten the bolts i use.

I say no fucking way lol

Should be fine but I'd look at a new rack as an insurance plan. You're taking a risk on the oem rack. What's another 500 bucks for a Prinsu or front runner? Plus, you'll look so cool

That's what 99% of mods are for right???

I've gone wheeling at night twice but I have a shit ton of lights... I bought my Prinsu well before my tent and never put anything on it... I'm a poser that is slowly transitioning to less of a poser

I wouldn't even worry about spending the money on a down sleeping bag for an RTT. I would just buy a big, heavy, warm flannel bag for winter. You probably won't be able to shut the tent with it but I doubt having to pack it up for the few times most people winter camp will be an issue. I would only pay the premium price for a down bag if you plan on doing winter backpacking where size/weight is more of a concern.

If your wife really gets cold you could get a Teton mammoth queen sleeping bag. I slept hot in the 0 degree version in below 0 temps by myself. She can easily slide an additional bag into it if need be. Or get her a doobie from kifaru and she can use it as a liner and it will double as a comfy blanket to use around the fire. Of course, make sure she has a good beanie to keep her head covered.

It isn't getting any warmer and my wife keeps hinting at how cold it will be when we start our road trip from CA to CO in December. We're planning to camp in Mojave, the Grand Canyon, and in Ouray, CO. I need to guarantee warmth and so I just bought a Mr Heater Little Buddy. I have a 5ft adapter hose I use with my Coleman camp stove and my 5lb propane tank. It should fit onto the Little Buddy so I can run the hose from the bed up to the RTT. I'll fabricate a stand for the heater which will attached to one of the RTT roof poles for stability (not so I can run it all night, but the same as 1MK).

I already have an electric blanket for her but now I can run it at a lower setting to draw out the battery life.

I've burned through about 20 bottles in my little buddy heater with the tent zipped up while I slept. Call me stupid for the first bottle or two for depending on that CO sensor but it works. And it's got so much plastic shrouding on it it doesn't melt my sleeping bag when it knocks over and shuts off. I was skeptical about it all until I tried it on my own but now when I wake up and its too hot I just kick the thing over to shut it off. If your lady is gonna be cold, the little buddy is the way to go. I love the idea of converting it to fill sized bottles! The little ones only last about 6 hours.

I learned how to refill them with the converter coupler so I've kept the same 6 or 7 bottles for a couple years now. I kinda like the fact that they run out of juice at 6 hours though. That's usually enough to keep the tent hot until you're awake.

I want to do the same more or less! 31st the top right of the diagram I made here is what I want connected inside the tent. Do you know where to get plugs I can put together on my own? I want to run a wire harness up to my bed rack but have a plug I can pop off when I remove it from the truck.

Clean work man show me pics of it installed!
