    Are on the way!
I keep a 3/4" clevis in there all the time. Slides in just like the draw bar. Comes in handy to tow those Chevys out of the way lol.. Well, that and to do more damage to those idiots that like to Watch there phones more than the road!

So I'm not a towing guy but I buy a DCORSB with the tow package, so I apologize if my questions are moronic. From what I've researched it all is pretty standard, just get a 2" bar and ball and shove it in there. But just to be sure:

-Do you guys have any recommendations for a tongue/draw bar/mount, whatever you want to call it? Won't be pulling large loads and will use very rarely. Figure I should get a class IV instead of III just b/c the hitch is IV so why not. I find lots of class III on Amazon but only a few class IV. Does it matter?
-Brand preference (is "Reese" better then x,y,z, etc)?
-2" or 2.5" (don't have my truck yet so can't measure myself)?
    -Does the drop matter?
-Want a ball, any size recommendations?

Maybe I should just buy the OEM one and be done with it...always feel like I'm getting cheated when I buy accessories from the dealer though.

The Tow Package from the factory is only 650 bucks. It's the only package that is priced well for what you get. As you can read in this thread, you get a lot more than just a Class 4 tow set up

I hear ya and I'm definitely on board with that. Which is why even though I don't think I'd use the tow package often I still bought it. My post was regarding the hitch bar and ball 'accessories' which plug into it. The OEM ones from Toyota are $57 for the mount and $29 for the ball (the OEM stuff). Might be worth it, might not, I don't know enough to judge which is why I thought I'd ask the experts.

Instead I was thinking of this - http://tinyurl.com/zqm8rwx
    and this - http://tinyurl.com/jh6j9bk

But the ball looks like it's 2" and 2-5/16" so not sure which would be more useful/common?

You should weigh the tongue of your trailer and find what drop you need first

Perhaps I should refine my question - does anyone know the specs for the OEM ball mount (dimensions, drop/rise) and trailer ball (diameter) accessories?

Most trailers use a 2" ball. You won't be hauling anything 2-5/16" with the taco. 1-7/8" is used on really small trailers only. Most basic mounts have no drop, so guessing that OEM is straight.. If you have a lift, you probably need a drop, but it is really specific to the trailer you are hauling and where it sits level - if I was getting one without knowing what trailer I was going to use I would get a 1-2" drop for a stock taco (just guessing). Just go to a farm or trailer supply store and get what you need. No sense buying ball mount from Toyota at a premium. Oh yeah, grease your balls.

I have this in mine. Heavy thick internal rubber pieces Protect against a 20MPH rear ender and makes a great bed step without lowering the gate

It may protect against a smart car, but what force can the rubber truly absorb? Once it reaches the threshold beyond the capability of the rubber, then it will cause more damage.

Check you state law about leaving your receiver in. In most states it's a no no.
Ohio: A person shall not operate a motor vehicle upon a highway with temporary towing devices, including, but not limited to, a ball and hitch, attached to the vehicle unless the motor vehicle is being used for towing purposes.

I disagree. My little 18' camper has a 2 5/16 ball. They're pretty common on RV's of all sizes.

But definitely 2" is by far the most common

the ball and hitch have stayed on my 98 Dakota for almost a decade now with no repercussions in California.

    or

edit: i was just informed that it is only illegal if it's obstructing the license plate. not sure on the validity of that.

I too use a GoRhino hitch step in the receiver when not towing (I did in my 4Runner before i sold it). Will be doing the same in my Tacoma when I get one. Can't tell you how many times it got hit by assholes trying to park in too small of a space behind me in Arlington VA.

You sound like an inconsiderate asshat.

Notice all those posts above about how it's actually illegal in a lot of places? Those laws are because of people like you.
