18.16mpg over first 1386 miles

17.13 worst - 18.94 best

Decent amount of off-roading and idling.
I suspect easy 19 on long roadtrips.

wow...and I was feeling cheated when my 80mph freeway runs were yielding 20-21 on average....I certainly feel better after reading about your 15-15.5!

 

My mileage gets better and better ever since I hit 600 miles. I'm at 20 mpg now driving 75% city with lift and 55lb KO2's - DCSB, 4x4. My AC runs all the time too. No complaints here...

 

I'm averaging 19.7mpg over 1000 miles and its 98% city so far.

Bahahaha. That sucks. I mean most Taco owners dont use their trucks for heavy towing, but still think Toyota really f**ked the pooch with this powertrain.

 

Why? Which previous Toyota Tacoma powertrain would give you much better gas mileage. The Tacoma is a mid size 6cyl truck. It is not a V8 or diesel powered full size. Guys and Gals who buy them don't buy them to haul 3 horse, horse trailers around the country. Why complicate life?

I hall 2500 pounds with mine. 2 bikes trailer gear fuel all adds up. To say guys who don't hall with this is not accurate. I will agree most are not pulling horses lol.

 

Haul heavy. I too usually have 2 mx bikes in the back every week. But thats the most she gets worked. If we are all honest its more marketed towards trails/off roading than hauling.

I was listening to a re-run of Car Talk on XM NPR as I drove through Utah this weekend. There was a guy who took his car to his mechanic because his car suddenly went from getting about 160 miles/tank to getting 210 miles/tank after his new wife started to put most of the miles on the car even though she was driving the same route since they worked at the same place and he couldn’t figure out what would cause the sudden increase in fuel economy.


That story reminded me of this thread.

 

Lots of variables in fuel efficiency. Still interesting on what others get. That's why i like to know about the different driving conditions.

Ok reality check. Changed my display to MPG (Imperial). I am getting 19MPH 50% in town balance on highway. I expect this to fall as winter progresses and warm up times are longer. Too, highway trips will be less until spring. Mileage is a heck of a lot better than my '91 4Runner. I never did have the courage to work it out.
