I just ordered the Toytec Boss coilovers. I have a hidden winch (maybe 100lbs with mount) behind stock bumper so I ordered other 650 springs. And I was thinking of building a steel bumper. I've decided to just go back to stock up front.

Should I change over to 600 spring?

I know what toytecs site says and I called to ask questions. (They said I'd get a full 3inch lift with 881s and top plates and obviously that's not true)

I want experience with this sort of thing....anybody got any input?

I just want to get rid of driver lean, have a better ride because ever pothole is like hitting a curb, top out at 3inches and prevent sag.

    I know about icon, I don't care . It's $400 more and I don't go off road often.

If you are sticking with a stock setup up front, go with the 600lb coils. I would be recommend the 650lb. I think it will be a step up from what you are now (based on what you said you are trying to accomplish), but I don't think it will get you to be where you want to be with the 650lb coils... I have the toytec ultimate coilovers on my 4runner with a 100lb steel bumper up front - 600lb coils do just fine and def helped the ride be smoother. just my opinion!

ive got a 98 xcab 4banger with 650# springs on my Sway away coilovers. it was real rough until i put my plate bumper on. you should be fine with #650 being that youre a 3.4 and dcab

So, does going stock up front mean you are removing the winch as well?
I have a the BOSS coil overs with winch and CBI steel bumper with the 650 springs. Personally the 650s are overkill for a stock ride.
Not sure son you spoke with at Toytec but, I think the advice was correct as I did the same on my last build and I had 3 inches of lift and had no lean.

We'll I changed over to the 600lb. I will be running the winch and custom mount (maybe 100lb?) but I'll probably eventually revert back to stock front end. I just want as much lift as possible without any sag.....just another question. If I adjust them all the way when I put them on will that be 3 inches or is the adjustable part for sag that will develop over time?

Honestly, I doubt you will see any sag in the front with the set up. I would worry about rear sag, depending on leafs far before fronts ever will.

I saw this thread when it was first posted. I am going to bump it.
I purchased the 600lbs set yesterday. I was encouraged by toytec to go with the 600lbs. both sales reps said 650 is overkill. one had 500lbs springs on his and he has a metal off road bumper w/o winch.

    I have a 2004 double cab TRDor.

I will always have: sliders and a front hitch with 3 trailer receivers. In the summer I normally have a bike rack (middle front trailer hitch), a hang glider rack (outer hitches) sometimes with many gliders (like this photo) a roof rack with camping and climbing gear. I will soon have a trailer hitch mounted winch that might live in the front and might live in the back on some weekends. I need a place to put my hi-lift and jerrycans when the popup camper is in the bed, might be the front? So i might fab or buy a steel bumper this summer to help hold all that crap...

1-What is the weight difference between a full-on plate bumper and more open tube bumper? (shoot from the hip on this, i won't hold any one to it)?

2-If i install either bumper and retain my frequently changed loads described above will the 600 still do it for me? Should i have gone with the 650 despite the recommendations?

For a 1st gen, I can't think of a reason to go with 650# springs. With full skids, my bumper and the M8000 winch, my 16" 600s are great. With 14" springs, you might need more preload but, after cranking up on the coil, you'll be fine.
