Hope it's anything but that tranny aren't hard to replace just time consuming and can get costly depending on what you choose to get new or used

It's gotta be something to do with the air to fuel ratio not being correct

Could be reading an actual lean condition. Does your scanner show real-time data? Post the actual O2 sensors readings, long-term / short-term fuel trims, and MAF sensor readings at low rpms and with throttle. If you lack the equipment, take it to a shop that can do the proper diagnosis rather than throw parts at it.

You can also try running with the MAF sensor unplugged and see if the engine runs better with the failsafe defaults.

Lean Bank code with your description of how it runs is a prime indicator of low fuel pressure. Either a clogged filter or a weak fuel pump. You mentioned that you swapped out the gas tank. Did you swap in a new one, or a used one? I would suggest checking the ful pump pressure to see if you are getting enough fuel.

Backfiring CAN be low fuel pressure, but not always. I would look at replacing the spark plug wires and getting a spark tester.

This allows you to have someone crank the engine and you check for quality of the spark. Make SURE that you have all of the other plug wires connected since the Tacoma uses a waste spark system. (This means that the other spark plug connected to the coil is part of the ignition sequence) You want to see a nice bright blue spark.
