I was considering buying a 2016 Tacoma, but configurations offered by Toyota Canada here don't fit my needs at all. I am now considering buying a 2016 4Runner Trail Edition.

One thing that bugs me, as everybody knows, the 4Runner is a really praised vehicule for thiefs. Even with the factory installed anti-thief system, insurance company impose the installation of a tracking device. I wonder how you current owners cope with this situation.

The factory alarm is hardly an alarm. It really is the weakest alarm system available.

If you want a quality alarm, you'll be spending a little cash to get it. Viper and Clifford are the best, IMO, and offer a ton of sensor options.

All that aside, if a thief wants a car, he will get a car. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get a quality alarm and a tracking device if needed and don't stay up at night worrying about it.

If somebody steals my truck, I don't want it back. I don't even want to sit in it again after it's been violated like that.

It depends how it was moded. If you already invested a lot into it, the insurance would probably only cover what is from origin.

One can never have too many light bars.
Insurance companies absolutely love lojack equipped vehicles. If you get lojack installed you will actually make money over time with reduced rates.

Thats damn cheap it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle to switch anything at that rate.

Good insurance, advanced alarm system is a must, but how to protect your truck and belongings when you are on a trip? Of course, being stolen when is in my driveway is frustrating, but have little impact. I am a lot more concern being stolen with all my gear inside while I am away from home.

How about steering wheel locks or bar?

We just picked up our new trail edition and my wife "goes what's this alarm sticker?" I told her get in the truck! She jumps in, I lock the door behind her. I tell her open the door! She opens the door and nothing happens...
Now we are looking at alarms.

Kinda curious which config you can't get in a Taco up north. Trail Ed is pretty well inline with a DCSBOR. At least that's what I convinced myself of.
