The spider was the North American Asspounderis Maximus The Praying mantis was correct to deferr to its awesomness to avoid the unpleasant results. There is a natural predator to these and its the mud wasp. It paralyzes the spiders, seals them up in a mud tube with an egg of one of its offspring, when the larval wasp hatches it eats all of the spiders then claws its way out to begin the cycle over.
