First off this battery is not intended to be used as a dual battery setup. I have a small 12v 7ah battery that I need charged to use tomorrow morning. I want to hook it up to my truck with jumper cables and use the alternator to charge it. I usually use my smart charger at home but I'm out of town. My smart charger has a specific setting for a small battery and for agm gel types which this one is. My truck has a oreileys lead acid type battery. Will this charge safely?

My truck is a v6 and also came with factory tow package which should include the beefed up alternator. My concern is if the truck will over charge. Anyone know about the alternators voltage regulator?

Your truck will be just fine - my concern is those smaller batteries can be damaged by charging too quickly - AGM batteries are sealed, and too rapid of a charge will cause gassing and pressure build-up within the case. Charging with your truck will give it about 14 - 14.4v at whatever amperage it takes. I would advise against it, since you'll have no control over the charge rate.

What landphil said. Get a proper charger and use that instead.
