In Massachusetts you don't pay the deductible if it wasn't your fault. I've never heard of getting paid minus the deductible and then getting reimbursed. The op's insurance company should pay the insured (OP)the whole amount, then THEY chase the other company for the money.

Happened to the wife's car. Guy came out, appraised the damage, received a check a few days later minus my $500 deductible. Few weeks later, got a check for $500. Wasn't her fault. Other insurance company just took its time getting around to accepting fault.

The last time I had a truck damaged in accident. (Not my fault. Guy ran a light and t-boned me right in the rear wheel), I wasn't taking any chances on bent frame, etc. Real nice truck I had too, step side Chevy Z71.

I had my truck towed to the Chevy dealer. I signed over the insurance claim to the dealer. And drove off with a new truck.

Finally have the insurance info for the policy holder. Not surprisingly, also USAA.
I got to see the truck in daylight yesterday when I went back over to the tow yard and extracted some of my aftermarket equipment.
Latest guess is that they won't total it -- it will need a new box in the rear. Rear driver leaf spring is ripped off the frame, and I suspect all but the front-driver wheel/control arms are damaged. Not sure about rear axle. The frame in the rear may be ever-so slightly bent but with the naked eye it looks mostly OK.

Don't forget to check the "squareness" of your soft top frame. Looks like the external bed cage may have protected it, but you never know. If it's for a short bed, let me know if you're going to get rid of it.

Not a surprise the insurance company won't total it. There is little depreciation in value on these trucks, so I imagine it takes some serious damage for them to total them out

Most credit union's and banks use NADA values for their loans. Should give you a good idea of where to start value wise.

Does it have a factory tow hitch?? Mine got tagged on the drivers side rear corner- super light damage (all to the stock bumper) Body shop claimed that the receiver had a "slight bend" (I'm crazy picky and couldn't detect it)

Factory Toyota class IV hitch is almost $2k!!!!!

I turned it into a Shrockworks high clearance rear with the receiver built into it (cheaper) so I got a REFUND!

Talk about making lemonade outta lemons. Good luck with yours. It's a tough little truck, it'll be fine. As they say- "should buff right out"

OP, if they fix the truck, be sure to ask about diminished value, after all the accident wasn't your fault!

#1. The guy assessing or inspecting the damage is responsible for only an "estimate" of damages.
#2. It is your truck, your choice of repair facility...period.
#3. Shop will handle additional damages (unseen at time of inspection) directly with USAA.
#4. You do not sign a release...if issues arise that are related to wreck, they will re-open claim.
#5. No negligence on your behalf...so your premium will not rise.

Good luck sir and let us know the outcome!!

Sucks big time. I have usaa also, just make sure you check theirs and who ever they contract to work the appraisal. I had to recently and noticed many inconsistencies with their reporting and especially communication. All of which was recorded.
