new to this site and first taco or even toyota ive owned(drove my moms cressida back in the day).
recently leased a 16 DCSB SR5 with the scout nav linked app thingy.
this is officially the worst invention ever. im not quite sure who was in charge of picking this contraption to put into toyotas vehicles but they should be fired. then drawn and quartered.

TL;DR: it sucks. everything about it. it should work like google maps. it doesnt.

i really wanted the integrated nav option (same that comes stock in the TRD) but no one had any with that option. in fact i was lucky to even find the one i did since it was like a quest for the holy grail. i was told i could order one but it could be months before i got it. honestly, i didnt have that kind of time. i was assured that the scout app worked great and would exactly what i wanted blah blah.
    it doesnt.
if you havent tried using this electronic version of someone reading map quest directions to you off a piece of paper that you printed at home. then dont. unless you are looking for one more thing to disappoint you in your life to push you that last inch into committing hari cari or jumping off a bridge.
#1)theres no map. how can anything even be called a gps without a map. thats not totally accurate. theres a map. its just a useless map. lets say youre driving to some far away place youve never been to and need to use this..."app". the map you get zooms out to show the entire route. so you could be looking at the whole state...or country. there is no way to zoom the map at all.
#2)it doesnt cut out the radio to give you direction. so youre cruising along, listening to some slipknot at just below the volume of ear bleeding and you hear the charlie brown lady. womp womp womp womp. wtf was that? oh! i need to turn somewhere up here according to the giant green arrow that is now displayed on the radio with a street name. wait, theres no street signs. which one is it? if i had a map id know!
#3)missed my turn. turn back a hole. cant you read? recalculating. youve lost service. cant connect to phone. try again later...pull over open google maps.
#4)state highway changes names every 230 yards so the bitch in the box has to keep reminding you not to veer off into a ditch. i guess thats a plus in regards to #2 above otherwise it would be like that movie tommy boy where the radio keeps cutting out. on every gps ive ever owned i usually mute it. i cant do that with this one because...well...#1.

ive e mailed toyota and spoke with someone the other day. and voiced my displeasure in this archaic device. i only required 3 things in this truck. back up cam, color, and nav. the nav is the biggest fail since the titanic. i told her i thought toyota should pay for the nav that comes in the trd to be installed in my truck. ill hold my breath lol.
i left a scathing review for the scout app in the play store. thatll show 'em. its right above the 4 corolla owners who hate it as well lol.

toyota really missed the mark with it. i saw what they were trying to do and i commend them for it. not wanting to be a slave to the apple/android software interface whatever and being able to have the creative control over it is fine. they just sucked at it.

so far i like everything else about the truck and should fit my needs for the next 24 months.
hows that for a first post?

    oooo i like your smilies.
ive got one of these :bikewheelie2:
