A friend of mine who is a former Army Medic/ Psyops member has been through a rough patch. He is now disabled and waiting on Nursing school to start and his only mode of transportation has broken down. He set up a Go Fund me in a last ditch attempt to keep him and his family from being homeless "again". Please take a second to check it out and donate if you can.

Is there any way to give anonymously?

GoFundMe seems to want me to give my personal information.

Yes, it should give you the option. I believe you still have to put in your info and just click anonymous. Thanks for looking brother

Still seems to give the organizer my name.

EDIT: Probably will try to use a one-time-use credit card and see if that works.

Ok, I guess you are right. I believe they all say anonymous if you look at the list so far but he still emailed my dad. I appreciate you looking into it. I know this means the world to him and his family.

If your friend speaks with a local veteran organizations' "service officer" they should be able to point him in the right direction to get the assistance he needs. I'd start with local VFW and/or American Legion posts.

Thanks guys, I talked to him yesterday and he met his goal to repair his car. From my understanding he had reached out to all gov't and DAV type orgs and posted the gofundme as a last resort. Luckily plenty of people came forward and helped him out.

Glad to hear it and that is unfortunate that local veteran's organizations weren't able to assist. When I was involved with my local VFW post we would do everything we could to pull a little out of our general fund to help out a vet. Our county also have a fund to assist veterans and we'd always point them towards that option too. Remind your buddy that the VA offers a lot of options to help him out with medical services, education assistance, job placement, etc. He earned those benefits so he might as well use them.

Our VA needs revamped. I have too many buddies who get nothing but the run around for medical.
My best friend broke his back on a jump, (not paralyzed thank God) he's out now, but he has days he's in so much pain he has to go to the ER. He's getting 0% disability where I know a female ex-coast guard who's receiving 100% because of breast cancer (nothing against her at all and cancer is a terrible thing) but it doesn't make sense to me when someone is injured on duty gets nothing when illness not caused by their work duty gets you 100%.
I'm also not saying this because I think my best friend just deserves money but when he calls me saying he's in the hospital again and gets released every time with a few pain meds and struggles to make ends meet since he can't work when his back pain gets so bad, something else needs to be done.

It sounds like he needs to get with a "service rep" (VFW, AL, DAV all have them) and have them help file an appeal for his disability rating. I've dealt with the VA many times since getting out of the army with injuries in 2004 and I haven't had any problems with the VA system personally. I agree that there is plenty of room for improvement when it comes to the VA though, it is a shame when those who served our nation don't get the support they deserve.

Yeah, he is going to nursing school in the fall on the gi bill, it was just the cash that was tight with 3 kids on one income. I'm just happy to see that so many people helped.

I have had my issues with the VA, mainly the school side. I did, however, sign up for VA health in 2011 and 2012 and still never got registered. They did give me a rating for hearing loss though. Not sure how that works without being in the system....

100% disability for breast cancer and then a guy broke his back on a parachute jump and he gets 0% No wonder this country is going to bankrupt and hell in a hand basket. I have also witness stories where people serve in the military doing office jobs and some how their wrist is damage from typing and they are getting 100% Un fucking real
