What does everyone look for when inspecting the undercarriage? I'm gonna be cleaning under there tomorrow, so what items should I take note of? I plan on torquing the u-bolts and strut mounts.

Well, even in daylight I get a super bright flashlight, lay down on the crawler and scoot underneath and start at one corner of the truck and follow the beam. Following the beam with your eyes I find makes you concentrate more on that specific area. (thats just a personal thing) I make sure everything is dry, or should be. When I get to a bolt a check it. I check the drive shaft U-Joints buy twisting to see how much play there is and shake a little to see how the carrier bearing is. Check out the rear U-bolts. Look real close at brake lines on each wheel for leaks, check power steering for leaks, check out the body for rust, make sure all add-ons have not moved and bolts are tight (like side bars, bull bar, etc) I especially look for any cracks or signs of dampness, that could mean a leak from somewhere, if there is a damp spot I follow it and see if there is a leak of a fluid or just water from the A/C. I do this on regular basis, so I especially look for anything that is different from last week.

    Hope that helps a little.

Thank you! I've done some minor tune up work, but haven't done a thorough breakdown since I bought the truck. What all do I need to torque? Or do you just hand tighten?

But seriously I plan on getting a paint pen and torquing every suspension component I can. Then marking the bolt positions so it's easier in the future to see if something has loosened.

What's some items worth torquing? I understand there are quite a bit of bolts and such.

Some will retorque everything they can.

I only have enough OCD to retorque what I know has been dickered with. Which is my suspension bolts, only.

If I feel better next week I plan on installing a skid plate up front and I'll torque the front end at that point.

Rears too if I have time. I won't have time for a paint pen, but when I saw them here locally (somewhere) they were $5.

Seems a cheap way to save time in the future with the torque tasks.

Alright, sounds like I'll do some of the major components and call it good. I suppose I could swing by the Home Depot and pick up a pen to make it easier in the future. Thank you for your input!

BTW you should search for the TW Torque Spec Guide if you haven't bookmarked it already.

Has all the torque values for the whole damn truck.
