    3.4 V6 pre-runner sr5 automatic transmission.

I read many treads about how much fluid should go when draining and filling without dropping the pan and changing filter.
I did mine 2 times using T-IV from toyota . No dropping pan. When I refilled it always took around 4.5 qts of fluid to get to th HOT mark on th dipstick with engine running.
I went to toyota dealership, they said it only takes 2.7 qt.
    Is the manual wrong?
Is the dealer only putting 2.7 when the correct should be more then 4?

According to the FSM, its 1.7qt drain and fill, 7.6qt dry fill (if you removed the tranny out from car and tipped it on end).

It is approximately 4 quarts for a drain and fill. I did mine just a few months ago (2003 3.4L). I poured all the drained transmission fluid into a 1 gallon milk jug and the carton was just short of full. I put four quarts of the Toyota T-IV back in and she is golden. I had seen the drain and fill listed as about two quarts, but everyone that had actually done it said 4 quarts. I filled the milk carton to double check.

4.25 and 4.5 on the last two drain and fills on my truck at the hot mark.

Both times I added 4 quarts then drove a bit to warm up the trans. Then added .25-.5 to reach the full side of hot range.

Yes just refill through the dipstick. A funnel makes this much easier.

have to take the pan off the bottom. you'll need an additional 3 quarts (won't need all 3 but extra just in case) if you do a pan drop and filter change.

So I will need 5 total quarts or just 3 of Toyota T-IV to do complete pan drop and filter?

Also, do I need Toyota Fluid 00295-00103 Formed-in-Place Oil Pan Gasket for the pan? Thanks for all your help

Best method every time I replaced it in my Tacoma, was use an empty gallon water jug. Put one quart marks on the side of the jug. Drain it into the jug with a funnel or drain it in a pan and pour it in the empty jug so you will know how much you drained out of your tranny. This will give you an estimate of how much oil to replace.

Defrost mirrors, compass/temp display rear view mirror, rear wiper on camper shell, trans.cooler.
It's not that hard to do a flush. Disconnect "Out Line" at the radiator. Replace with a longer one to empty into a bucket.
Start engine run briefly. Shut off. Add transmission fluid to trans dipstick. Start motor briefly, shut off.
Repeat till you have clean fluid coming out.

I had a little over 6.5 quarts with drain and taking the Pan off. I also used a new filter as my fluid was dark and it was worth the $30 to get a new one.

    this is what I used:

Just called my dealer for fun and they told me that to drop the pan (95 V6), clean screen, and refill (up to 5 quarts) will cost a grand total of $313 tax included

I just picked up 6 quarts of Castrol Transmax Import Multi Vehicle ATF fluid today. Is Castrol good enough? I have a new OEM filter/OEM drain plug/OEM drain plug gasket. Will change this week
