    From past experience, 3 inch bolts typically require a four foot long wrench. Hell, a 1-1/4 wrench is nearly a foot and half long, and that is probably a 4 or 5 inch bolt head.
    I'm lazy so I use a 5 foot helper bar, more torque, more control, kinda like a crawl box mod.

    we were trying to fix said fin stabilizer... bolt was seized and we had 3 guys on the wrench and boom. snapped... I think it was scored on the interior of said fin. it snapped pretty straight.

    read 2 up.

    we only had enough room for a 2 foot cheater.

    The shear rupture for a 3" dia. A307 bolt is 170,000lbf.

    And that only has a nominal shear strength of 24ksi.

    So now there's 3 guys and the wrench is 6 feet long.

    Translation - "three guys with a 4 foot wrench with a two foot pipe broke a 3 inch bolt that might have already been damaged."

    See that makes moar sence then I broke a 3 inch bolt fixing a stabilizer fin while traversing the seven seas with captain ahab and the seven dwarfs with a magic 4 foot wrench. You gotta tell us about the pipe.

    I think the cutoff is 500 tons, which is probably bigger than a CG cutter, so probably a boat. :notsure:
