I need to replace the head on my 3.4 because it shot out a spark plug and stripped the hole. I jb welded the spark plug with a helicoil but it shot that out too. When i was talking with a friend who knows more about this than i do he said if i put a new head on it the compression difference with a new head would snap my piston springs. Anyone know anything about that?

Lol? Highly unlikely. Since a new head would most likely come cleaner and with more space from less carbon buildup. Also, just take your current head to a machine shop and have them put a timesert and resurface and maybe a test for around 140. Much cheaper

You dont need to go that far at all. Unless your head is really damaged. But that is something else. Juat make sure you can remove the camshafts and put them back on properly. More work they have to do. More expensive it will be.

You shot out a spark plug? How did you manage that?

Your friend is way off. If its a stock head, you can get differing height head gaskets to compensate for the material removed when surfacing. The FSM has measurements to determine this by measuring points on the head. In anycase, you should take the heads to a reputable machine shop to be pressure tested and checked. If the damage is not to extensive, they may be able to salvage your current head. Might be worth having a valve job done if funds permit.

The more disassembly you do at home the cheaper it will be.

Thanks. I thought it was bs but i had to be safe. I bought the roll bar from a guy who custom made it.

Find some one who repairs ford 5.4 4.8 motors. Happens to those all the time. Had a buddy that this happened to on his '97 2.7 and he took it to a shop that did this on the Fords.
$150 later it has held for 3+ yrs now. The buddy I found this out from (the ford repair) just blew his second plug out of his 5.4 but it was another cylinder as the original repair was holding. Google ford 5.4 spark plug repair.
