The correct color temp HID's do help visible light very much. Although they do not 'make' more light than a halogen. If they appear blue, purple, green, orange, or any of the other colors it is because the arch has passed the visible light spectrum. Any color you see from an HID means you are loosing visibility. Just the same as with halogens. When you see a halogen and it looks yellowish or how ever you define it, you are loosing visible light. The sun emits light at about 4600K. I tried 4000K, 4300K, 4500K, 4600K and found that 5000K actually emits the most visible light. They are just REALLY hard to find! I wanted more 5000K, but no one had any. I needed some backups, so I did testing of visible light and bought the closest until 5000K are available. Halogen bulbs at best are about 3000K. So although they may emit alot of light, you can't see it all. I know that this is a REALLY dumbed down summary, just look it up. If you take 2 exact same size bulbs. A halogen and a 5000K HID bulb and put them in the same housing, the 5000K will appear exactly white and the halogen will look yellow. But you will see alot more VISIBLE light using the HID. Because your eye can see it, the halogen is emitting the same beam, you just can not see it. The issue we face is that the HID bulbs are not set in the EXACT same place as the OEM halogen's so the reflector becomes the issue. A light source is a light source, the type is not an issue. I use HELLA relays and harness , btw for HID's.
