I installed my CKMA12 compressor this summer and have used it numerous times. It's been great and everything has worked fine for months. Until recently...

The compressor is fine. The problem I'm experiencing is with the switch, or maybe my wiring of the switch.

Last week I started the truck and the compressor kicked on. My lights were on at the time (this seems to be relevant). I assumed I had bumped the switch during my heated mirror install, but the switch was off.

Twice since then, I have started the truck (lights off) and everything seemed normal. When I turned the lights on, the compressor kicked on.

Every time this has happened, I've noticed that the lights on the ARB switch were not working. There have been numerous days during this time when I start the truck, the switch lights up, and everything functions normally.

    Anyone have any insight?

Sounds like maybe the wire you used to power the light in the switch (dash lighting perhaps?) is contacting the wire that switches the power on.
Check all connectors. But a very quick and easy check would be to replace the relay. Perhaps there is bad wiring inside the relay allowing electricity to jump terminals.

A couple things I noticed today:

I started the truck with the lights off. The ARB switch did not illuminate. I turned the switch on and the compressor turned on. I inspected the wiring at the switch and the splice which powers the switch. All looked to be as it should be. This was in the morning. In the evening I started the truck and when I turned the lights on, the compressor turned on as before - switch was not illuminated.

I might just have to order a relay from ARB to test if that's the problem. I'm a little bummed that it would fail in just a few months. If my lockers were installed, I'd be driving 30+ minutes home at night with my lockers engaged. That would suck.

If you pull the relay or fuse nothing will run. I'm away from home (and the truck) but I'm pretty sure the relay is a standard automotive 40 amp...?

Maybe water just got into the relay or wiring or something shorted out.

@58 Siesta I'm not looking at a diagram for the ARB setup, but I assume it is a backlit (carling style?) switch with an indicator light controlling the relay. Check the ground connection for the backlighting on the switch - a poor connection there and you'll be feeding backlight power back to the relay coil through the two bulbs in the switch. The switch lighting won't work without the ground either.
