Recommendations regarding transmission oil filters

    I have read many DIY transmission fluid changes and still haven't read one that mentioned how often to change out the transmission oil filter. I was in the process of ordering one at the dealer and the guy told me that they don't ever need to be changed. This goes against everything I have been taught. If I need to change this out at some point would you recommend an oem Toyota filter or am I okay with a reputable aftermarket brand filter?

    The tacoma uses a steel mesh filter like a window screen in your house . All you need to do is remove the filter añd give it a cleaning . Aisn warner for the most part have alwàys used steel mesh over the paper/cloth filter used in most domestic transmissions
