Thanks, they look sturdy enough, more than the OEM. Do you use the rail caps, I wonder if they are necessary ?
    * And did you use nuts&bolts thru the composite to fix them ?
Screws wouldn't be my first choice
    * Thanks a lot for the kitchen idea, just need to find one not so tall. This tread is great, OP had a great idea, TW is great.
Obviously infected by the plague of "mod'ing my truck comes first'ish"
I don't "Mod" my truck everyday. But when I don't, I think about "Mods" for my truck !

Hey so I want to add an electrical outlet with a cig lighter to my bed. I have a bussman fuse box (soon it'll have a breaker). But where the best place the get the outlets? Also any advice with the wiring? I know all of the general things but have any ran into any unknown issues before?

Question for you dog owners. While tent camping, be it rtt or whatever, what do you do with your dogs. I've heard of people tying them up and others get em in the tent. Just curious about any other things you guys might do!

Mine sleeps in the tent with me. Gotta set a blanket down though as he turns into a mop (overgrown poodle). Sits in the back seat too. But we don't have kids yet, so he is my child.

Mine sleeps in the tent with us. ive hear of others whose dogs wont get in the tent and prefer to sleep outside in protection mode. but mines a big sissy and prefers to sleep under a roof.

No children for us yet either. But when we do I'm going to do a 4runner build for my wife's daily driver/ weekend warrior. so we can run a 4runner with the kids and my truck will be the toy with the dog hahaha

That's similar to what we'll be doing. Right now the wife drives a Jeep that I've played with (lift, tires, sliders, etc.). But it's not too kid friendly as the doors don't stay open to load them. And it's way too tall. So I'll most likely get a 4runner as well.

Haha, sounds like my dogs. A couple months back my wife and I took the Tacoma into the mountains around Gunnison to test the new RTT. Sure enough, when the sun went down we couldn't find either dog until we looked here....

So the wife and I just hung out by the fire and enjoyed a few beers while our guard dogs made sure nothing was going to happen to the tent.

And naturally, guess who expected me to haul her big 70lb ass up the ladder into the tent so she could continue to protect us from a higher, better concealed post..... but look at that face...

And the little tenacious border collie actually on watch....

And a couple of the Tacoma in camp. My wife has more pictures of the trip on her build thread if y'all care to look. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/pyriteco-build-page.376488/page-2

that's a nice rig set up yall have there man! im getting started with making the cap liveable this weekend. starting out with a sleeping platform that has random cut outs so we can have access to the cab side of the bed. im going to start with a torsion box and hope that's enough rigidity to hold both of us and the pup without much sagging.

Like the orientation of the RTT with the back of the truck. Does it work well with the shell like that?

    A little a this, a little a that...
My dog goes in the tent too. He's usually in there well before we are. We bring a thin crib mattress for him to sleep on. Works well for all of us.

I remember backpacking once on Mt Lassen. My friend thought she gave me a 0* bag but it turned out to be a 30* bag. I'm glad I had my dog in the tent those two nights! Like sleeping with a big furry heater. :)

Yeah it works decently well if you want to be able to get into the back of the truck when the annex is on. Only thing is we had to close the back of the truck and the annex at night since there was about 2 feet of gap under the tailgate that let cold air in since it was in the 20s

So, any opinions on RTT's in bear, moose or lion country? Does the elevation of the RTT provide critter safety? Always heard that hard-sided is the way to go, but would appreciate comments.

Why would anyone choose to camp(sleep) on the top of their truck rather then the ground?

I'll bite. What's so terrible about not sleeping on the ground?
