Hi I just bought a pair of never programed 2016 Tacoma SMART keys. I would like to program them myself to avoid overpaying at the dealership.

Does anyone know how to program these?

I've been looking into buying techstream
and on their website for doing stuff like this you need the security level program.

its on yearly subscription and its bloody expensive.

But supposeddly you can get pirated versions off ebay, not sure about that though as I cant find anything.
Besides I've heard stories of fake cables and software bricking the ECU...do that and you're fucked. Pretty sure that would also be completely voided warranty so you're double fucked cause they wont fix it without paying and i cant see that being cheap.

You can also get TIS on a 2 day subscription for $55
Mongoose cable will set you back almost $500. (those knock offs can brick your ECU as well)

I dunno everyone talks about these cheaper versions. But when it comes to the risks not really worth it to me. As much as I do not want to pay the $1100 almost for a year of TIS I may just get the cable (comes in handy for other software like Bavarian Tech for BMW which I have as well) and then go with the two day subscriptions when I need it.
AS expensive as that may be I do really want it for adjusting certain restricted settings.
AND if I ever have faults that I want to check without having the dealership fuck me.

Might be shit out of luck dude. Maybe someone else might know a way but from what I'm aware of you need TIS.
This is where I think toyota really fuckin sucks. Ross Tech for VW is $480 for the cable which activates the software. No subscription just buy their cable and you're set.

you don't need the security level one, that's mostly if you need to delete fobs. the Tacoma can have up to 5 fobs programmed to it.

you only need the mongoose cable if you changing major items, most of the minor stuff the techstream off ebay/Amazon will work just fine.
