Well, my little 2000lb winch has worked fine, but I decided its time to give my trailer a winch that doesn't hook to a hitch ball.
I trying to decide between the Smittybilt XRC 9500, or the Badlands (Harbor Freight) 12k. Both are ~$300. Both are rated higher than anything I will need to winch onto my trailer (it gets towed by my Tacoma after all), but I like having the extra capacity so I'm not maxing it out loading a Honda. Had to load my cousins POS right hand drive Civic, and my current winch reminded me that it is wearing out.
So, what do you guys think?

I've never had a smittybuilt, have had 3 HF/badland winches in 9-12k. So far I've not had one fail. They're slow, they work. I had a 12k chicago electric (before the badlands name) on my 1800lb samurai, I honestly don't know if the rig was even there when it was pulling. I have a 12k on my 4 billion ton beater f250, it's pulled it when the entire truck was sitting on the diffs and all 4 tires 10" away from contact (riding on high ruts and the rut collapsed). And a 9k that I put on my old taco, and is on my current taco. It's done a couple easy pulls, for the most part it's a bumper ornament. I don't do the harder wheeling I used to so it sees limited use.
