    2014 Blue Tacoma TRD Off-Road
    Hey guys, I just had a few questions about the Whipsaw Trail. What modifications would be a good idea to have before attempting such a trail, and along those lines what gear would be good to pack? As well the person I run with has a Tundra, is that too big of a vehicle for this trail or no?

    I just stumbled across this in some deep scrolling, so I'll revive it incase you still have questions.

    I did it for the first time with 3" lift and 33s. That was before I had any armor. I had to winch out of a mud hole once but it was an optional obstacle. Taco did it pretty well and my 2012 trd sport didn't have atrac or a locker.

    My buddy came along in his 2000ish Chevy 2500. He skipped a few obstacles, I had to give him a couple pulls, and he destroyed a side step bar. I don't know what the specs on that truck are but it was close to stock with some lame all terrain tires. It was tough for him.

    I'd recommend sliders and skids, but I got through okay just picking my lines carefully. It can get a lot muddier than it was in mid September too. Try to plan for late in the season but before snow and you'll have the easiest time with it.

    If you are wheeling solid all day you can do it in one go... but plan on 3 days. That gives you time for a more leisurely pace and some long lunch stops with activities! Bring the normal camping/survival and recovery gear and keep in mind that it's high elevation so it gets chilly at night.
