I hope someone can help me out on this one. I have a 04 tacoma and the problem is when I drive at night my head light, dash light and tail lights go out after about a half hour and when I turn the light switch off and back on they all come on again for another half hour. Also the headlights no longer go out when I turn the truck off and remove the key. I am stumped on this one. I suspect it might be the headlamp switch in lever assembly. Any help is greatly appreciated, bbart3

with the info you provided, I'd agree with possibly being the switch. Problem sounds similar to the mid 90 chevy trucks that went through light switches like they were a wear item.

I'd try replacing the head-lite relay.

I'm with the relay crowd. $6 at any of the part stores. $35 from the dealer. Ask me how I know.

Thank you for the help. I replace the hd relay and the headlight switch lever and still have the same problem. It all started when I had a short in the trailer wire harness and when I removed that I thought everything was ok. Also the headlights no longer go out when I turn the truck off and remove the key. I dread taking it to a Toyota dealer, so if anyone has any other suggestions I would really appreciate it.
