Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and am currently on the market for a Tacoma. I have my name (and some cash) on a hold for the first 2016 with my specs (Haggled them down to 30k) to come to my local dealer, but am definitely wanting to find a used one for a better ballpark of under 25k. I'll be looking at a few this weekend, fingers crossed one will pass the test and I can have my hold refunded.

I plan on having it as my DD for 100 mile combined commutes to/from work each day, so I will have to resist any temptations to modify her! But I do plan on getting into some of the fixes that don't affect MPG (specifically taking any and all chrome and powder coating)

I drove a wrangler that I bought stock and lifted with the help of my dad for 4 years and selling her has been my biggest regret, so I'm hoping my Tacoma will fill the empty hole in my chest.

I'm going with a Tacoma for reason one: Toyota, and two: 4WD. I was very surprised to find that every lot I went to had 2WD's in my price range but next to no 4WD

Keep looking at alot of preowned you can get a nice one for your price range. CarGuru and Im sure other car search engines show how long the car has been posted and the various times they have dropped in price. Just be ready to walk if they dont meet your price and remind them how long the truck has been sitting.

I just scored a lightly owned 2015 TDR Offroad for what I was trying to get dealers to come down to on a new 2016 and I am pretty happy. Really like the interior of the 2016s, but from what I read on here and other places 2015 are tried and true, 3rd gen might need a few years to work on some stuff.

Thanks everybody. I've just picked her up today! 2006 TRD with only 77k. Really happy with my choice of used vs. new! Got the package I wanted and 4 doors, which I was losing with the '16. I was surprised at how well it drove on the highway. I guess I'm used to being bounced all over with the jeep.

I only have a handful of pictures- will have plenty more tomorrow!

Very nice indeed. I sold a built Jeep TJ to get my used Off-Road as well. And, at first I was a little sad about it, but now I cannot imagine not owning a Tacoma. In the 40K miles I've put on the truck not one thing has broken. (that wasn't my fault to begin with) In the 65K miles I put on my jeep the list of broken shit is far to big to post here. The next thing you'll come to love is the absolute utility of having a truck with 4 doors. Got a bunch of people to move around, no problem. Got a bunch of stuff to haul, no problem. Want to go off road, no problem.

Before too long you'll be wondering why you had that jeep in the first place. :D

Oh absolutely. 2WD wasn't an option. I talked myself into getting rid of my "fueled efficient" car by convincing myself that I had to have 4WD for my long commutes in bad weather

You make a good point. I spent more money trying to keep my TJ on the road than I did really enjoying it. Sometimes I forget that though. Getting used to the Tacoma has been fun to say the least. I'm learning I can't quite make the u-turns I used to without curb hopping (which is that really a bad thing?). I'm hoping to take the taco out for some light trailing this summer.

This is the sort of stuff I used to do with my jeep down in Moab. This is the Devil's crack on the Moab Rim Trail.

And this is the spot on Hell's Revenge that this happened -

I fired my spotter, in the hat, right after this

The Tacoma ain't no jeep, but it can go from happily blasting down the freeway at 80+ mph to crawling a moderately difficult trail without an issue. Driving the jeep in the pictures at anything over 60 mph was a white knuckle affair.

I used to spend hours watching YouTube videos of Hell's Revenge fails! Wasn't something I would ever be brave enough to try myself though!
