    Can someone link to where I can purchase the oil wrench fitting for the oil canister? I'd like to get one that works off a ratchet wrench, if possible.

    Just want to make sure I have one, and I plan to change at 500-1,000 to get the fine metal and other products that accumulate as the engine wears itself in. I was told that it is a 5,000 mile interval. Can anyone either confirm or refute?

    Sometimes car manufactures place "special chemicals" in the oil to assist in the break in period. I'm not sure whether or not the Tacoma utilizes this, but I'd go around 7,500 before changing it. I believe the 2016 Tacomas are suggested to be changed at the 10,000 mile interval anyway. Do you have a manual on hand?

    I have never heard of manufacturers adding these "special chemicals" to the engine oil before the vehicle leaves the factory. If you have a source or a reference for this information I would like to read about it. Perhaps you could post a link. Thanks in advance.

    Changed mine at 800. You'd be amazed the amount of casting flash, casting sand, and other wear metals that are in the oil for the initial break in.

    With the cartridge style your truck has, I'd recommend one with the notches on the side like pictured below to help keep anything from slipping. I don't know what size the new trucks take; otherwise I'd link you to an actual product.
    I got one from the dealer for my wife's Camry.

    I've heard of this too... below is a link and states:

    "a Honda spokesman says its cars come from the factory with a special oil formulation for the break-in period. Honda advises owners to not change the oil early. Stark said Blackstone Laboratories' test of Honda's break-in oil shows it contains molybdenum-disulfide, an anti-wear additive. But Stark said Honda is the only manufacturer he knows that's using special break-in oil. The take-away? If there are any special break-in recommendations from the manufacturer, follow them. And consider analyzing the oil at 3,000 miles."

    That was a good read, thanks for the link. The manual for the 2106 Taco outlines a few very generic precautions regarding the first 1000 miles but there are definitely no "special break-in recommendations" outlined in the manual. In my opinion an early oil change is a very good idea as it removes the fine debris from the manufacturing / assembly process that isn't captured by the oil filter and gets rid of any extra sealant, assembly lube etc. that may be mixed in with the oil.

    It may not be necessary to change the oil early but I can't see how it would hurt. It cost me less than $40 CDN to change mine out and I would consider that cheap peace of mind. I will post a picture of what I got out of the used oil after 290 km.

    The only manufacturer I've ever seen that uses "break in fluid" is BMW in their M cars.
