Hey guys, new member here- so hoping this is the right place to ask this question and get some advice.

I have a 98 Tacoma, 4x4 that was my truck in college / first few years in the working world, it has since become our camp truck. It's a pretty bare-bones model with no power windows / locks / cruise - nothing to break which is great.

While sitting under the barn over the summer- rats/mice got in under the hood and chewedevery wire there was. A few hours of splicing and shrink wrapping I believe I got them all back to normal... however the truck is telling me I missed something.

I have to use the gear shift override to switch out of park, and the radio is completely dead- EXCEPT it will accept, and eject a CD.

My google research first told me to look into the fuses, and break lights- which I did and everything is good there. The master cylinder was bad at the same time, so we swapped that out, no problems but the two issues are not related.

Any tips on where to go next, has anyone seen anything like this? Is a chewed wire the likely culprit and it's only a matter of finding and fixing that wire?

electrical problems are always shitty. never know where a ground could be touching or shorting out. could have even fried part of the radio.

only thing to do is start tracing wires and make sure they are wrapped and separated. :annoyed::fingerscrossed:

Yup- been randomly fighting with this one for a few months now. Going to just have to dive in one day and see what I can find.

I guess it is safe to assume whatever killed the radio killed the gear shift solenoid (I'm guessing something isn't being released when the brake is compressed and that's my issue)
