Hi - I'm looking at purchasing my first Tacoma (and first Toyota for that matter). Therefore, I'm not overly familiar with the performance of these trucks.

The truck I'm looking at is a 2006 DCSB TRDOF. Has a 3 inch lift, 5 speed auto, and it's running 285/75/16 BFG KOs.

My question is in regard to running larger tires with the stock drivetrain/differentials/powerplant.

-How big is too big before it starts to effect the truck's performance?
-Are the 285/75 shoes going to make any difference from stock tires?
-What size tire requires a change in the differential gearing?

Appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks in advance!!!

Cool, thanks. Sounds like it should do alright with the 285s. We will see.

I run 285's in the summer with no problem an hardly notice any difference.

If you had a choice I would change the tires and rims over to help with your economy. I would suggest a 255/75r17 tires and some nice light weight wheels. for mid 31-33 inch tires most people dont see too much issue. 33.5 is exact point of re-gear (math wise) from 3.73 to 4.10 from the stock 30.5. most people dont regear because our motors have the torque and it helps with mileage to have a little bit lower rpms.

Glad you chose a tacoma though. you will be happy.
