Speedometer error (miles per hour) is NOT necessarily an accurate indication of odometer (miles) error. Two different computer processes - not like the old days where the speedometer and odometer was a cable/gear-driven single device. While my speedometer was reading 2-3 mph high, odometer was off almost nothing. Check your odometer with GPS or by mile markers (do at least 50 miles).

I have done it over 100's of trips over a course of tens of thousands of miles. I am very meticulous about this particular subject. Originally I started taking notice because a company I worked for years ago had me working out of a couple different offices and neither were in my town. So when the A-holes would call, I knew I had to be there ASAP and they didn't really care how. I wanted to know how long it would take me to get there at that time of day. I originally started clocking how long it took me to get to a specific office at whatever time of day and exact miles driven from house to office. Then when I got GPS, and started changing to different tires/wheels, I started noticing the GPS logs were different than odometer readings when different tires were on the truck, etc. I even have filed several complaints with Toyota over the lost warranty coverage.

From my house in Abbeville, LA to Mandeville, LA (which was the most traveled route) with the OEM tires and rims on the truck the odometer reads 7 miles more than with FJ Trail edition rims and 33" BFG's. For that distance its about 6% correction or so.

    My records...
from Abbeville, LA to Kenner, LA - 1 Hr 38mins (left at about 11:00 PM)
from Abbeville, LA to Houston, TX - 2Hrs and 49mins (left at about 2:30AM)
(both cases running over 100MPH on I-10 for long distances, I don't condone it in any way, but it is what it is. When it means your paycheck you do what you have to do or you quit your job. It is that simple. And yes Tacomas can take it!)
