A few of us have this and are communicating with possible fixes.

We have eliminated many things to narrow it down. I test drove another new one that had it, My service department also drove a new SR 5 that had it and opened ticket with Toyota who is apparently claiming it's "normal" We have confirmed it is NOT unique to Mexican made trucks.

Another member is keeping list of those that have it and is seeking legal help. He is really upset about it. Not accepting it's normal. Only audible between 35-45 MPH

    Numerous threads on this issue,

Completely blank on both sides. Which is why I am hypothesizing it could contain an RFID of some sort.

Windows up or down. I can hear it listening to talk radio but not listening to louder volume tunes. If you had it you would notice it easily. Some trucks don't have it. But for those that do it is all the same noise and it can be annoying.

I think the OP should listed for the tone and if he notices it, bring it up with a "Due Bill" for the dealership. Toyota at this point is not dealing with it because people are taking delivery and only a handful of us on the board have taken it in for service. Don't know how many overall have presented this noise to Their dealers.

Toyota claimed the 16 was quieter than the Gen 3. I can assure them my 15 was quieter because it did not have this howling.

Is it unique to what gear you are in?

It appears only between 35-45 MPH. We have tried many solutions so far to isolated. Some if us rode in the bed to see if we could hear the source, Others removed the air dam, put foam insulation over the vent, and on the sdes of the bed where the bed meets the cab. Chage gears at 40 MPH but it does not go way. It does "stutter" over street imperfections but is not the tires becasue we all rode on different road surfaces and the noise did not change.

What about any of that metal insulation that shields the exhaust heat? road imperfections could cause a change in the air moving beneath the vehicle so that could narrow down where to look, either that or something with the moving components of the driveline that changes when you hit a road imperfection and the suspension moves

I can confirm now that I don't get that metallic sound, just on occasion a light windy whistle like sound.

I found one issue I was able to fix with my truck. The back seats would not lock into place(The double seats with both the mid and passengers seat). You could lightly pull on it and it would release little effort..I Fixed it by pulling up briskly(don't yank on it) on the release strap and then let it spring back which happened re-engaged the locking mechanism. Was a happy camper after i got it to lock in place tightly.

I would check for this just in case because it would could definitely be hazard if you had to stop suddenly or got into an accident and the seat gave way.

Ya I mean I can definitely hear some light wind whistle around 40mph. And I can hear some winding from the transmission at around 3000-4000 rpm but I guess it all sounds normal to me.

I'm also coming from a cheap sport car where everything had its own noise. So to me, the Tacoma is super quiet

Yeah its quiet which is why other sounds can be heard, either I am getting used to it, or it is getting quieter, Still want to know the source though,

CONGRATS on getting your truck finally

THANK YOU! I didn't get to drive it until today because my wife wanted to drive it home lol. The truck I ordered had only the V6 tow package. This one I bought had the chrome side steps, tonneau cover, mud guards, and carpet floor mats. They told me since I didn't want any of that stuff they would just charge me "cost" So I ended up paying an extra $1,320 for the added features which I'm okay with. Also convinced them to add an aftermarket HomeLink system.

Nope... After a couple days of searching I just peeled it off. Came off easily and I just tossed it in the trash.
