I myself would never use this feature in this manner, but apparently some Toyota dealers (there's a video on YouTube in specific that I am referring to and I will paste the link if I can find it again) believe the "clutch start cancel" button is to be used in extreme situations where rolling back would be dangerous (Perhaps the edge of a loose-terrain cliff?:notsure:). With the engine off and the key in the "On" position, you would put the transfer case in 4-Lo and the transmission in 1st gear and turn the key (without using the clutch pedal). Basically you would be using the starter to turn the motor over and crawl the truck up to a safe position. I only use my clutch start cancel button when I feel like starting my truck but am too lazy to get in and press on the clutch. Maybe this is the logic of Toyota engineers, as from what I can recall from the video, this is the dealer's explanation for why push button start is not an option for manual transmission applications.

That "crawl" feature of the clutch start cancel button is exactly what that button is there for. It is there to use the starter motor to crawl up spots where you can't risk rolling backwards. Works really well too.

Anyone with the manual have a chance to tow yet? Wondering how it would do vs the auto.

X2 on the push button start. When I test drove, I had to have the salesman explain it and it's purpose. I kind of rolled my eyes a bit... now one of my favorite features:)

I'd thought hard about a manual, but I also wanted a Limited...and we know how that goes.

My Mustang is manual though, so I get my fix every time the weather gets nice!

Manuals are cool. I've owned a Nissan stanza, Acura rsx, Subaru Legacy gt, mazdaspeed 6, 370z, and Honda Accord ALL manual transmissions!

But this time I bought a taco limited with the auto. Why? Because 3 kids make me too tired to shift , just at that point in my life... If the truck drove itself and I could take a nap I'd be happy. Didn't think I'd enjoy a manual as much in this truck which drives like a bus compared to all the manual cars I've owned. Someday maybe a used wrx with a manual...

I switched to automatics back in 2004, and I'm really pleased with the 2016 6 speed manual. I have no regrets about going back to a stick. If I commuted in heavy traffic or drove in the city a lot, I'd probably feel differently, though. I drive mostly highway and have a 20 mile curvy, hilly road to negotiate to get home. The manual is perfect for me. I personally don't like push button start, as I've said in other threads. I prefer turning a real key and being able to get in and out of ACC mode easily.

So I'm assuming your truck description in your profile is no longer accurate? "waiting for 2016 TRD-OR DC 6MT"

Drove a manual when I was stationed in NYC. NBD, that's why you leave a little bit of follow distance. It's second nature to change gears, and you just leave the clutch depressed in traffic.

Err, its not really a big deal but standing on the clutch will wear out the throwout bearing quicker

Sure. I an in Seattle now and it's full of hills. Hill starts also suck for the clutch.

    Expected wear item.

Yes I'm no longer waiting for the trd-or 6mt in silver double cab. After 2 months of waiting and the dealer saying they couldn't even order the truck yet because it wouldn't get accepted into the system, I test drove a blue limited and then bought it. And this was from the number 1 volume sales dealer in all of Pennsylvania who couldn't get even order it!

I had an epiphany you could say regarding manuals. I work less than 0.9 mile away from my house. I walk to work half the time and when I drive I have to go to the third level of a parking garage and make a lot of turns, was kind of a pain with the manuals. The rest of the time I am Driving around with the fam. Sad as it is to say I usually always preferred taking my wife's Odyssey minivan over my manual trans accord Everytime we went out for convenience. We live in a heavily urbanized suburb with lots of lights and congestion.

I'm totally demasculinated now I know. I used to be such a hard core MT guy of course (owning 6 different manual cars). The sport shift feature is surprisingly fun when I get the urge to rev the engine as I used to do a lot for kicks in my MT vehicles. Maybe someday another MT sporty sedan is in my future as a 3rd car. I plan to keep the truck for a long time. I love the ruggedness of it. My 9 year old son is in love with it too.
