I have just had a new water pump installed and new seals on cams and crank and timing belt plugs and wires, after putting it together the truck would not go over 30 mph, It would pulsate up and down on the tack.
the local shop that did the work re did the timing belt 4 times, still no power if you put the accelerator peddle down it makes sucking noised but no power or acceleration.
I have since towed it to a Toyota Dealer in Brownsville Tx. They also had no luck as it did not give them any codes that would tell them it was a timing issue. They also checked the timing.
they came back with I need a new Transmission as they found brass filings in the transmission dip stick. I don't know if this the real problem or not and would like in put before I spend $4888.30 on a new Trans.
    HELP PLEASE

Efff Brownsville. Take it up the Rio Bravo to Frank Smith Toyota in McAllen. The service manager over there is good. I used to take my taco there in the olden days. They have always been honest for a dealership. I still buy parts there sí estoy cerca de la frontera, buey.

How does the engine run in park? Rev up to redline or struggles to get there?

4Runner Trail wheels and Toyo Open Country ATII tires 265-70-17. Cosmetic stuff like Pro grille and OffRoad black bumper trim, vinyl delete on side, added hood graphic, OEM tube steps.
Ran fine before the timing belt and water pump and like crap after. Bingo! Your trans didn't go to hell from sitting on a lift getting engine work done. Have someone who knows what they're doing mechanically check the timing marks as a starting point. Forget whether a code is set for now. What you describe is classic cam timing getting jacked by Mr. Timing Belt Replacer.

I agree. Either check the timing yourself or have someone do it. Check for #1 piston at Top Dead Center and that all the timing marks line up on the crank and cam gears.

Hey so just throwing this out there since my 2002 was doing something similar... Mine sat in the yard for a while, a long while. I decided to go out and start it and go down the street and back. Coming back the rpm's were rev'ing up and down like a pinball. I looked under the hood and noticed that this 1/4 inch hose that is right on top of the motor was torn in half. I have lots of mice in my area so I think it was their dinner. I replaced the hose but the battery has since died, so I don't know if it fixed the problem. The truck always had a perfect idle no matter what kind of weather. Looking up the hose online, I believe it was some kind of vacuum hose. (It went across just behind where you put in the oil)
Humor me and check that hose.

Follow up on my 2004 Toyota Tacoma
After taking it to a Toyota Dealer they could only say they found brass in trans fluid and wanted $4888.00 for new transmission.
I called a Auto Transmission Service Co in Harlingen Tx and had it rebuilt for $1,850.00
    It now runs fine again.
    Thanks for everyone's help

The flush probably killed your transmission....

meh, semantics. technically poor maintenance or ignoring warning signs killed it. the flush just brought it to light :)

AT are a complex mess of opinions. I say flushing the system does more harm than leaving it alone. That said, it's okay to flush if under 60k miles. (What I've always heard)
