My 05 Tacoma basic foam steering wheel was coming apart. Found a used one off the internet and just received it. I was surprised to see it has steering wheel switches for I believe, the radio and a stalk to operate the cruise control! Is this something I can just plug into my steering column, to get these two items to work? Do have the stock OEM am/fm CD radio.

Is this a steering wheel from an 05 tacoma? Did 05 tacoma's have steering wheel buttons as an option? I recall seeing a thread where a guy added buttons to his steering wheel on a 13 or 14 and it was plug and play. I bet if this is a wheel from an 05 or near there that they will work.

You would need to change the clock spring to make the controls work, and hookup the plug behind the stereo to make it work. The cruise control plug should be there already.

For the radio controls, you need a clock spring and a steering wheel controls converter module if you have an aftermarket stereo. I was going to do this to my truck before I traded it in. Still have all the parts (that are for sale by the way) ;)

The cruise control on the other hand should be plug and play.

Thanks for the offer, I went out to look at the original wheel and air bag. The radio switch takes up an extra 7/8 inch of space from my OEM air bag. So not only I need the clock spring, but a narrower air bag. To me it's not worth the extra cost and effort to try to make it work.

There used to be a vendor on ebay that sold replacement airbag covers. You drill out the rivets holding on your current (too-big) cover and rivet on the new one with the included safety rivets. I wonder if that's still a thing.

I'm not sure, but it's funny how deep I'm going with this project on a 10 year old truck. Had to get a replacement for the air injection pump used one $95 and by pass kit so it won't fail in the future $200. Then I started with just upgrading the intermittent wiper switch arm, found one $78. Then I thought well the steering wheel is falling apart, got one on the internet $63. So now I'm thinking, it would be nice to have cruise control on the steering wheel and it will be off and I can do that in addition. So I ordered a $35 cruse control kit from eBay, China! This is right after putting a valve cover gasket and headers on for $400. Icing on the cake, I have rust around the bottom corner of the back window. So I plan to clean, fill, and paint it. Plan to have someone glue a new peace in place $245. This idea of drilling the rivets doesn't sound too bright, and then their's the clock spring that I need. Unless maybe their's a video on this I'll pass, not sure me or if it's my wallet! LOL!
