Alright all you electrical masterminds, here is your time to shine! Last year I swapped my 99 tacoma prerunner to 5sp/4wd and have loved every minute of him. I've yet to get stuck (maybe I should try harder) and she has been pumping out a smooth 24+ MPG on the hwy thanks to some new gearing coupled with the stick. When I swapped, I did the simple wiring splice to get it to turn over and took the check engine light out and just check periodically to make sure it's not throwing anything more than the usual shift solenoids. This year I moved to Tennessee which has stringent emissions checks and they failed me due to the shift solenoid codes. I called the master tech for the state and he confirmed with me that if I can wire the resistors in and make it appear stock, I should pass. While mechanically inclined, I do cringe at the thought of having to rewire the truck and don't want to buy another ECM, etc. just to still have the check engine light. The truck is in excellent shape, runs like a dream, and I would rather sell my soul than sell him. What has been you all's experience with this and is there a way that I can simply trick the computer into not throwing the codes? I need to register my vehicle and have 90 days to retest so any and all input is appreciated. Surely there have been others that have swapped tranny's on the east coast and have ran into this issue before...
