Do I need new shocks for Ubolt flip? 2002taco

So I was thinking about finally doing my ubolt flip since my bolts are old and rusted now. I have the lower mounting tabs for my 2002 and bilstein 5125 in the rear I believe 8''. Do I need to run a longer stroke shock for the ubolt kit? I also have dakar leafs approx 3'' lift in the rear.

 

After you do the ubolt flip, what are you planning to use for shock mounts? The answer to your question depends entirely where you will be relocating the shock mounts.

 

Well I planned on relocating the lowers, the uppers need to be moved as well? I was under the impression that only the lower mounts had to be moved.

 

Yeah, there are lots of ways to skin that cat. When you do your bottom mounts, the distance between the top and bottom will answer the question you posed.

I chose to change the top and bottom mount locations. These are 8.5" travel shocks.

 

If you're just mounting new lower mounts due to changing out the u-bolt plates, you can keep them in a similar position as stock (within an inch or so on the axle housing) and not have to change shocks.

 

Thank you for the replies. I decided to go with a similar bar setup across my frame and new lower mounts. I didn't plan on angling my shocks inward though, I was going to offset them on the bar. It also looks like my shocks will be pretty close to my leafs.

Right now I have an 8'' 5100 I'm considering a 10'' fox resi or bilstein 5160?resi. Going for about 15'' collapsed 25'' expanded. Any suggestions?

I did not relocate the upper mounts.
The shocks are different lengths too.
